Special Event - Chicago (10/15-16)
cmatthes replied to cmatthes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
We're filling up the list pretty quickly for the Cliff Dwellers event. That is limited to 40 people (at this time), but the Jam is open to as many people as we can fit in the room. If you're serious about going to the lunch session, try to get registered ASAP, before we run out of room. Thanks! -
Fantastic!

Special Event - Chicago (10/15-16)
cmatthes replied to cmatthes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
No "official" event at this point. We ended up going with the Saturday Cliff Dwellers Club slot for a number of reasons, but keeping the potentially huge costs down and also not having a conflict with those people who can't get out of work on Friday made that a no-brainer. We will most likely have a music store/pub/sightseeing crawl type thing worked out for Friday for those who can make it. I think the Muse may line us all up to attend a Playboy shoot or something. I haven't asked him yet, of course... -
Don't forget that they also cure your Dumble G.A.S. too!

Registration is now open for the Special Event coming up in October. Please let me know if you will be bringing a guest (or guests). I'll need the following information in your email: Name / HFC Screen Name Your City, State Yes/No - I will attend the Cliff Dwellers Event Yes/No - I will attend the Saturday night Jam If you plan to attend, please EMAIL me (NO PMs - I won't get those!) at: chris at hamerfanclub dot com . Here is a brief message from Paul Hamer regarding the event: Paul Hamer respectfully requests your attendance at a luncheon honoring Curtis Meissner, Hamer Guitars long standing collaborator, at The Cliff Dwellers, Saturday October 16th, from noon to 3 p.m. This invitation is extended to Hamer Fan Club members only on a first come, first served basis. Attendance will be limited to 40 people and reservations must be made by October 1st, by EMAILING: chris at hamerfanclub dot com Curtis Meissner and his step-brother Jonathan, were among Paul's first guitar students at Northern Prairie Music and worked at Northern Prairie after school and on weekends growing up. Curtis witnessed and participated in the formation of Hamer Guitars from the very beginning. He is a great musician and an all around wonderful guy. Please take this opportunity to meet Curtis and learn more about the early years. The Cliff Dwellers is Chicago's oldest and most respected club for Artists, Architects, Authors and Musicians. Perched high atop Michigan ave. in a penthouse suite directly across from The Art Institute and next door to Orchestra Hall you will enjoy a fabulous luncheon with incredible views of the lake front. The Cliff Dwellers was founded in 1909 by author Hamlin Garland and architects Louis Sullivan, Daniel Burnham and Frank Lloyd Wright and remains today an important meeting place for the exchange of ideas among all artists. Luncheon will be in the Club's dining room with a slide show presentation of early Hamer photos and memorabilia in the Sullivan Room. You will be able to pay for your individual lunches with cash or credit cards, otherwise there is no premium charged for this event. There will be a star-studded Jam afterwards, starting @ 6PM at the Excalibur Club. In addition to HFC'ers, there will be a number VIPs, including some Chicago-area artists and Hamer employees from the Arlington Heights and Palatine days. Jam details, including a rough set list/schedule will be discussed in an upcoming thread. We are also attempting to reserve a block of rooms in a nearby hotel, depending upon response from out-of-towners. This thread will be cross-referenced with the anchored thread above for your convenience: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...=42653&st=0 Book those flights soon, if you haven't already!

In keeping with HFC tradition, I'd have to say $350... -
I am TOTALLY stealing that line, Arnie - that's pure marketing genius!
-
Sorry about that! I used the postal scale to get the weights/postage for the ones I didn't actually take to the window. I figured that would be correct, but guess not. I'd rather go too heavy on postage than too light.
-
Gary - we sure do. I apologize if I missed anybody's email last week. I was working from a Blackberry while on vacation and had my share of issues with replies! I just reordered more picks this week, so we should be good. Shoot me an email: chris at hamerfanclub dot com, and I'll get you all the details. Thanks!

I'm going to either put up a separate post or add to this one this weekend for registration info and more soliciting of cool pics of your rare, old and custom Hamers from the '70s and '80s. Paul will be assembling a slide presentation, so we hope to see some neat stuff there. More to come very soon!

 At least that's less offensive than the Madonna pic! -
Great to hear. That's almost faster than if I had driven to your house!

We're going to probably have some structure around it - makes it easier on the drummer . Not necessarily a set list for the entire evening, but there will be a list of players, what songs they want to do, when any "special guests" or VIPs will be playing, etc. The goal is to maximize the fun at these things and to minimize any hesitation or down time. Ideally, everybody who wants to play will get to participate, but depending on the turnout, that sometimes doesn't always work out. We're going to do our best to get everybody involved who wants to play, and get a lot of things lined up in advance, where possible.

Curt: Right now, we have the following available: Tortex 351 Shape - $6.50 per pkg * Thin (.60mm) Orange * Med (.73mm) Black * Heavy (.88mm) Green * Xtra Heavy (1.14mm) Purple (re-ordered) Celluloid 351 Shape - $6.50 per pkg * Med White (re-ordered) * Med Black (re-ordered) * Heavy Purple Pearloid (re-ordered) * Heavy Yellow Celluloid 346 (Rounded Triangle) Shape - $7.00 per pkg * Med Tortoiseshell (re-ordered) * Heavy Black The ones I have reordered are either in very low supply or out. Those should be back in stock within a week. Depending on how things go in the next week or so, we will likely try an order of the #551 (Jazz III, smaller, pointier shape) in white celluloid in 2 thicknesses. Thanks!

There is another call this week - as of now, a deposit has been put down for the room where we'll have the Saturday night jam. That will be at the Excalibur Club in downtown Chicago, and we have the room starting at 6pm. I've heard that we have confirmations from some legendary Chicago-area musicians as well. We'll be putting out more about the jam/jam format in the coming weeks. We should know the details about the presentation/Q&A portion - Paul and Chris H. were circling back on that, and although we already know where that will be, I'll post once the time gets locked down. That portion may be moving to Saturday during the day to accommodate out-of-towners and Friday workday conflicts, but we're also discussing that part. In the meantime, we will be actively soliciting pics from the HFC for Paul to use during his presentation. What we're looking for primarily here are '70s' and '80's model guitars and basses - the more, the merrier! I'll post an email address where to send those (jpeg format should be fine) as soon as I get the okay. Looking like a lot of fun for that weekend!
-
This is the #551 Shape - we can get it in white celluloid or tortoiseshell only right now (no Tortex, sorry!).
-
That is one of the most amazing tops I've ever seen on ANY Standard! Congrats, man!
-
Thanks, Shawn - a big batch went out today, and more are headed out tomorrow. I'm also reordering a few that we sold out of quickly, so will have them back in stock over the next week or so. Let me know here in this thread if there is still interest in ordering #551 shape (like a Jazz III, but in Celluloid) pick, and I'll check it out. Those require considerably more $$ up front on my end, but if there's enough demand to justify it, let's talk...
-
The Extra Heavy and Thin Tortex above. To everybody who sent me PMs instead of emails - unfortunately, my Inbox got totally filled up, so I am sure I missed some of you. Please send me an email to: chris at hamerfanclub dot com Thanks!

Early Hamer production #'s, How many are left?
cmatthes replied to RkR's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The database that is attached to the site is ancient, and is not the complete (and current) list that Steve maintains. He updates the list on a regular basis. -
I've had limited email access all week since I've been out of town, so am trying to work through a third party email provider. I'm back in town tonight to get anybody I may have missed. Thanks!
