  1. recent iTunes action... John Mayer Continuum Lady Gaga Born this Way Crystal Bowersox Farmers Daughter Adele 21 Bruce Springsteen Born to Run KT Tunstall Tiger Suit Little Boots - Hands Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters Adam Lambert - For your entertainment
  2. If everyone had the same tastes it would be a boring world. I can definitely see your point as we talked about previously about how you felt at her show with your young daughter there. I was surprised how many young kids were in the audience. I really like maybe 1/3 of Gaga's songs, the rest are either just ok or "meh" to me. Her live show is more like pop theatre, not much different than going to see a showing of "Cats" or "Lion King" or something, so I appreciate the dancing, choreography, and the spectacle of all that. What I find almost more interesting than her music is Gaga in a social context... how she manipulates nearly everything and plays the game so well. She's a smart girl and has studied fame, celebrity, and pop culture intently. It's almost like she's currently doing "research" which will end up in a thesis project. I find it interesting to watch how the world reacts to her. Saw Aerosmith with Sammy Hagar last year. Great show, even if they played too many of their "2nd phase" hits for my taste.
  3. This is a pretty cool Rock version of Bad Romance....
  4. I still think that Bad Romance is a harder rocking song than what passes for most rock bands these days. Just google "Bad Romance Rock Cover" and you'll see how well it can work. Her stuff often has great melodies, huge hooks, and big Choruses. She said in some interview something like, "I write the chorus first, because if you don't have a great chorus nobody gives a fuck." She also said she intended to write Pop music that her metal friends would listen to. She also has that New York east side edge in alot of her stuff which makes it much more palatable to me than the often saccharin LA pop sound. I think this is a funny quote of hers of when she considered moving to LA - "I put my toe in that water, and it was a Kegel-exercise vaginal reaction where I clenched and had to retract immediately. I ran furiously back to New York, to my old apartment, and I hung out with my friends, and I went to the same bars." I'm looking forward to the next album. The first one "The Fame" was kindof scattershot, I think her producers had more control on that album and they were just trying a bunch of stuff to see what would stick. On "The Fame Monster" I think she took more creative control, the songs are generally edgier and I suspect the "real" Gaga came out more. It sounds like on this next one she had a ton of creative freedom, it will be interesting to hear what comes out. She's basically said that the "Born this Way" single is unlike most of the rest of the album, and much of it is darker. besides, how can you not like a girl who tweets this "The Number of the Beast. Having' beers listening to Maiden w the New York Boys. Happy 666 Twitterland."
  5. maybe if you could get dale from 20 years ago. now, not so much...
  6. I was at a ZZTop show at Red Rocks when a torrential downpour opened up. 'Top Kept playing as long as they could but when there were basically waterfalls coming down the seats they had to shut it down.
  7. ie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPPUY7PkJl0
  8. well hey,if you say so.
  9. The opener was Semi Precious Weapons. I was hoping for Scissor Sisters, that band is cool. Turns out that the Sisters actually played Houston a few days before the Gaga show and I missed it. Semi Precious weapons was pretty cool though... In a glam punk sortof way - http://www.vevo.com/watch/semi-precious-we...on/USUV71000188
  10. Yup, and I'lll probably do it again next time she comes around.
  11. I was at the Gaga show In Houston when I saw her take this spill. Be careful when straddling a piano and the bench and wearing 6" stillettos kids. She's lucky she didn't whack her head on the piano on the way down. Kudo's for getting right up and finishing the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_MkPWF8LE8...player_embedded The fall in context happens at 8:50 of this video. BTW, I think this song rocks, it's a "new" one that will be on the next album. I thought the whole show was excellent... her music works better live with the full band.
  12. I met my wife courtesy of an Amiga BBS, which she actually ran herself from an Amiga 1000. My BBS screen names were always "Sherlock" but I never used that on internet boards. My current screen name is obviously based on my name, my original screen name "Turbo Gerbil" was the name of a band I was in at the time I joined HFC first. Yeah, we didn't take ourselves very seriously.
  13. Bruce, check yer PM. Let me know if you want to hook up sometime in H-town.
  14. dang, wish I'd seen this a bit earlier today. Alas, wouldn't matter because my wife is feeling under the weather. Definitely want to hit the swamps one of these days though.
  15. I'd leave the top the way it is and put a floating HB at the neck. Schweet!
  16. good choice.
  17. I must be the only one on the planet that likes VH3.
  18. do yourself a favor and trade your velocity 120 for the new single space 300. The reactance and definition controls are very useful. IMO you are doing it the right way to start, with the power amp and guitar cabs. I think trying to go all out with full range speakers at first just adds too many new variables for most people and can be overwhelming. and don't be surprised if you have to experiment with different MIDI devices until you are able to successfully upload a firmware update sysex to AxeFx. The shorter you make your MIDI cable runs the better in general. IMO thats the only real weakness in the AxeFx, is relying on MIDI for transferring files that large. I had problems with a Midisport 2x2 but my MOTU 828mkii worked fine. and obviously, don't forget about the AxeFx forums: http://www.fractalaudio.com/forum
  19. hm... I replaced the rotary in mine with a 3 way toggle and didn't have to widen the hole. Mines a '91, I guess it's possible the hole was a different size.
  20. Ebony fretboard? You bastard! Awesome looking guitar.
  21. didn't Burns make an official repro after Guild?
  22. Jol obviously wanted to play in the small builder boutique market, which probably didn't play well as a component of FMIC's business plan. I wonder if they've considered trying to pump the brand up again, get some production guitars out there in the stores?
  23. that was my exact thought.
  24. he probably doesn't need to "make a living", so if a few people a year pony up 16K for a guitar he's probably happy.
  25. Flamenco is not well represented. Paco De Lucia at 27? No Carlos Montoya or Sabicas. Gimme a fricken break. And McLaughlin at 30? what the hell is Dylan even doing on that list? Songwriter list sure... guitar player list. Nuh uh.
