SteveB replied to a topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard

Playing Leads: Who Else Doesn't Use Their Pinky?
SteveB replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I don't know too many people who use the pinky for vibrato, etc. Even shredders will use it for fingering notes on runs but not for putting expression into them. Django "shredded" just fine with two fingers though, and the pinky wasn't one of them. -
Wrong. Guinness is Food!

so's a blow torch. Too bad you probably won't be able to drive down to Tucson. You could prowl around Chicago Music, that place is a trip. And eat at Cafe Poca Cosa, the best restaurant in the United States, IMNSHO. http://pocacosatucson.com/

The great thing about this country is that we are all free to bitch about it. screw the diet and fire up the grills! Happy 4th!

Most Pretentious Albums of All Time
SteveB replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
so apparently alot of people would prefer that Rock stay in it's natural form as a folk art. Boring. -
Heard Andy Timmons, Bought a Mesa Lonestar.

Lonestar Classic and Mark 1. I've always considered myself a "high gain" kinda guy, but these amps are doing great for me at the moment. I posted a bit ago about it ... http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19366

I have the most albums by....(fill in the blank)
SteveB replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I think roughly in order ZZ-Top Aerosmith Kings-X Charlie Hunter ( in various guises) John Scofield Basically I buy anything those first three put out. Same with Robin Trower, though his output hasn't been as large. I keep buying Aerosmith, hoping one day that they will be a rock band again. -
When do we hit ten years of the HFC?
SteveB replied to Steve Haynie's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Heh.. that kinda goes with the time before that with me telling the Aard one day... you know, a Virt would be pretty cool to have and of course he was like, " yeah.. good luck with that.". Then I walked into the downtown Guitar Center one day and there it was. I hope it's getting good use at Casa De Stonge. I need to come visit it sometime. -
happy bday! try not to drink too much.

Those look like cool amps, I'm going to have to check out the 5:50 when they show up around here. I used to have an F50 which I liked alot, and the 5:50 is basically the new version of that. If you throw the 5:25 or 5:50 into 5 watt mode, they both will be running single ended class A. BTW, this is an interesting little article from Randall Aiken about the Vox and Class A: http://www.aikenamps.com/VoxAC30classA_2.html

In addition to all the knobs in the front, the Road King has almost as many switches and knobs on the back. These are used to reconfigure the power section for each preamp setting. In other words, if I really want a "brit" sound, not only can you select "brit" in the preamp, but you can assign a power configuration for that preamp that has a couple EL34's. You want super clean with uber headroom? Assign the clean pre to a power configuration with 4 6L6's. I think there are 5 power configurations that you can assign as you want to any of the pre-amp sections. This is also why the road king weighs a ton, as there are a bunch of 12ax7's, 4 6L6's, 2 EL 34's, and a couple of rectifier tubes in there. Its a tube "modelling" amp. You can also plug in a couple of different cabs and assign which cab gets used. The Roadster does all the preamp stuff, but doesn't have the progressive linkage power stuff or the cab switching. So it's like the preamp section of the Road King with a more standard power section.

anybody know if the RK can get a Mark Style lead tone?

What's this Hamer Relic worth?
SteveB replied to Bruce's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
what, it made you buy more amps? -
does the "stripe" actually make much difference? I've heard that the "green" stripe is "best", but what is the actual difference?
-
I do that pretty much everytime I practice.
-
maybe slam the TK with another overdrive in front? Sounds like some experimenting is in order.
-
I happen to have one of those ( TK-999US?), but I don't remember getting it to do that. I'll have to drag the thing out again and play around with it!

anybody know of a compressor (or other pedal) that can simulate the power supply sag and then note bloom from a cranked tube power amp? Obviously a compressor will do the compression part of the equation, but not sure about the "bloom" part.
