  1. I Had one of those Peavey Backstage amps for a while, utter crap. Reggie has a ton of uniqueness in his playing and chops to spare, but his rig sucks. He had a rack box just sitting on top of the peavey, and one time actually managed to pull it off the top of the amp and disconnect himself. Dude, spend 30$ for a rack case! It was funny to contrast that to Victor, who had two full racks of the bass rig from hell. Also, Frank Zappa had chops, but that "fuzz into the board" tone on much of his stuff is terrible.
  2. especially since to get a PRS "V" you'd have to spend like 10K for a handmade Private Stock.
  3. Good to hear CB!
  4. POD XT has some great sounds in it, although it usually takes a bit of tweaking to match the patches to your setup. If you go that route the XT/Live is cheaper and more convenient than buying the XT and a floorboard. I've also been tempted to try the Egnator designed Randall modular preamps....
  5. Great news!
  6. It's gotta be ZZ-Top, IMO. Aerosmith is up there too, although I've never particularly liked the sober version. I prefer when Aerosmith was still a rock band.
  7. yeah.... and she was actually at her Grandmother's funeral in Ohio when she heard that her husband was in the ICU from getting hit. I'd say she's had better weeks.
  8. why am I getting a sudden visual of the "vultures" who start circling somebody's cubicle in a company as soon as someone announces they are leaving....
  9. One time when I was a kid I brushed my teeth with Brylcream. Bleah. I also managed to run through a glass sliding door once. My brother was the champion at trying to electrocute himself by sticking stuff in electrical sockets. Sometimes one wonders how we manage to survive to adulthood.
  10. this is a bit late cuz I've been traveling so my internet is spotty. In any case, last Thursday Tres Aardvark was hit by a car while riding his bike. Amazingly, no broken bones but some serious deep contusions and surgery was needed to clean up his knee and elbow, and he was in the ICU for a while to monitor internal bleeding. In any case, hes home now recuperating, albeit a bit loopy from pain killers. I'm guessing the 12 string is going to be in the case for awhile, taunting him. Anyway, I'm sure he'd appreciate some well wishes.
  11. I've been formulating a take on this sort of thing lately. Basically, I think you can broadly break music up into "folk" music and "art" music. I don't mean "folk" in the "acoustic guitars and banjos" way, more more in the "popular, simpler melodies originated and enjoyed by the popular culture" kind of way. The vast majority of rock music is "folk" music in this sense. "Art" music on the other hand is music that in many ways is aimed at sophisticated listeners. A whole lot of people don't like art music because it's not designed to for immediate gratification, it's more like a painting that takes more effort to understand, and might even require some knowlege of the artist and where his motivations lie, and might even require knowledge of painting to the point of being able to see where the artist changed things up. Vai, Satch, et all often straddle the middle ground between folk and art, or go straight to art. While Jazz started off as folk music, it has migrated nearly completly to Art. Mozart was not folk music of the day, and I'm sure many people didn't like to listen to him then either. I don't "like" alot of BeBop Jazz, but I'm fully willing to admit thats because I don't know what I am listening for, and my ear is not developed enough to really hear the relationship of the harmony and the melody and what a given soloist is doing in that context. You arn't gonna hear me say that a particular BeBopper is "souless" just because I don't get what's happening. What the hell is "soul" anyway? If it's all about the lyrics, then I guess that any instrumental music is incapable of having soul. Part of the "soul" in a Vai or Satch tune is in reality the fact that they can flat out play stuff that is impossible for some other people, or that the create sounds and textures with the guitar that other people don't. So, if you don't like something, then consider learning what you need in order to appreciate it. It will probably open you up as a musician. On the other hand, you may not give a shit about learning that, which is fine, but don't slag on musicians whose work you choose not to understand.
  12. Hmmm.... dunno. I was presuming short scale cuz of the 3 mini-toggle arrangement.
  13. Holy Crap! Shortscale dragonskin setneck chappy. Don't.....need.....Guitar....... It would work so well with all those Jazz chords I'm learning now...
  14. I agree, the 25" scale is perfect.
  15. Jesus? or Silent Bob?
  16. my #1 PRS's balance better for me because of the body shape. That one is a '91 CE, although I've also owned a 2000 which was also a great guitar. The neck heal on post '95's is a red herring argument; if you play one it really isn't in the way, you still get great access. Its a cosmetic issue, and while I agree it looks funny, I gotta give PRS credit for sticking with the extra mass for tone rather than going just for looks. Personally, I love the guitars and think they sound and play great. I prefer offset doublecut bodies and 24 frets... ain't going to find a production Hamer with those spec's new on the wall. However, there is also no doubt that used Hamers are a steal, and that if you are going to go "off production" the Hamer custom upcharges are much less than a PRS Private Stock, although to my knowledge there isn't anything they won't do in the PRS Private Stock program, whereas Hamer has limits.
  17. Thanks anyway, but Aard knows full well that Tye Die aint my thang. Have at it.
  18. actually, Bottom Feeders ( tm ) are not their market, because bottom feeders don't buy new.
  19. man, I still have a Jones for a short scale fusion in Eerie Swirl.
  20. perfectly understandable. Even worse, it's the old "fat poe ass" and not the newer "svelte poe ass". Not that I'm solicitating for an update, mind you....
  21. actually Jack, I think these guys are pulling your leg a bit....
