Sounds more like a trademark issue. Trademark holders that don't defend against marks that could possibly be confusing risk losing the trademark.

Very sad, but they were in decline. I suppose I can kiss the deposit for my special order goodbye. Damn.

I bought a Rivera era London Reverb around 1986, new. It was a decent sounding solid state amp with push-button channel switching and a 5 band EQ. Loud, flexible, reliable amp. I think I had it for about 10 years before being wooed away by a Tech 21 Trademark 60.

Agreed. I started looking into heavier strings when going from Fender scale to Hamers, and missing the snap in the strings. I drive the pick hard, and don't like a sloppy response. I particularly like the Thomistik-Infeld Power-Brights .011 .015 .019 .032 .045 .053 (Heavy Bottom) on my Eclipses. Regarding the discussion of even/odd harmonics, I like to drive the string with a strong fundamental, and let the my amp provide the harmonic distortion. Different amps or amp models will let you choose the harmonics you want to bring out. If excess harmonics are there at the input, the output ends up sounding like mush.

Sometimes just a little more metal is all you need. I like the D'Addario "plus" strings: Plus I like these on Fender scale guitars for a little more snap.

A young guitarist's dream job?

Nice! It is great to hear a happy ending to a "my kid went to California to make it in music" story. I'm very happy for you both! Jonathan -

XTC - would like to assemble a playlist
jwhitcomb3 replied to Turdus's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Skylarking is great. I like the original sequencing with Mermaid Smiled better, but the record company reissued the album and substituted Dear God when it took off as a single. Andy Partridge seems cut from the mold of brilliant musicians who sooner or later alienates everybody he comes in contact with. Maybe he and Richie Blackmore should start a band! I usually don't like tribute albums, but the XTC tribute "A Testimonial Dinner" is great. Only XTC would be cheeky enough to contribute a track to their own tribute album (as "Terry and the Lovemen"), but it is a great song, and Ruben Blades' full salsa band rendition of "The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul" is killer. -
Can you list all the amps you've ever owned?

Quite a bit lighter, even though it sustains better. So mass isn't the only part of the equation! Thanks. Still grounded at the claw! Yeah, the Tele bridge was a revelation. I'm not sure if these guitars will still sound "vintage" or have the signature tele/strat sound, but my ear was never attuned to that anyway. Less plink, more ring. They are solid, well built bridges with smooth working mechanisms that provide stable tuning and feel comfortable against my palm.
-
Just dropped this Babicz bridge in my Fender MIM Roland Ready Strat. Pretty cool, but just getting to know it. Note that the sustain block is very thin. I suppose they figure the full contact hardware is where the sustain comes from. No argument with the results! The other important bit was that the height of this bridge was much lower than the stock bridge, which was very high...the pickups were sticking way out of the guitar before. The neck had been shimmed at the bridge side. I had to move the shim to the neck side to get the angle right. I'm loving the smooth action of the trem (I have it set up to full floating), and the tuning stability is much better.

Most Unique Hamer Ever Made (highly custom)
jwhitcomb3 replied to coolfeel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
"Most unique?" Isn't like asking which historical figure is the most dead? If something is one of a kind, it is unique. It can't be more or less one of a kind than anything else that is one of a kind. So my vote is for all of 'em. -

i think alot of his vocals sound like robert plant, esp the raconteurs ("blue veins" sounds so much like zep its freaky). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zy5Uyo-gaEo When I was watching White and Page playing together on "It Might Get Loud" I was thinking that a Plant-less Led Zeppelin could do much worse than touring with White. Plus a two guitar attack could do a much better job with the studio tracks. -Jonathan

I thought I would take my own advice and tried to make a 25 song playlist of my favorite White Stripes songs. FAIL Besides having a great sound, these guys really knew how to sequence an album. It's not so much that the songs don't sound good out of context, but the albums flow so naturally that even the weaker individual tracks work in the mix. Damn they were good.
-
Lord knows, I'm neither hip nor teenaged, but I love that song! I thought they were the real deal, and enjoyed their run. But I could probably consolidate their catalog to about 25 songs and not miss the rest. Jonathan

Mini Humbucker mounting question
jwhitcomb3 replied to jwhitcomb3's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
If you want to keep it simple, Seymour Duncan makes a drop-in Firebird pickup here in their Antiquities line. Duncan also offers an Antiquities New York Style mini here. I may have a set of the Duncan Firebird antiquity pickups for sale in the near future. They are a vast improvement over the stock Eclipse pickups! -Jonathan -

Mini Humbucker mounting question
jwhitcomb3 replied to jwhitcomb3's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Here's a shot of the mini-humbucker: Here's a shot with an overlaid Firebird ring: I'll need to find a couple pickup springs and figure out how to solder nuts onto the pickup bracket, but this should work. -Jonathan -

Can Gibson Les Paul Deluxe style mini-humbuckers be mounted in firebird style pickup rings? Thanks, Jonathan
