MWJVI: resounding success!
edgar_allan_poe replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
You guys kill me...thanks for all your kind words. D and I are safe and sound and DEAD FRIGGIN TIRED!! LOL!! The quality of people at these things never ceases to amaze me. I cannot thank Ken, Bruce, and Chris enough. Ken and Bruce went out of their way to get me to and from the airport. Ken in the dead of rush hour on a Friday and Bruce at 7AM Sunday morning. You guys rock like no other. I cannot express my level of appreciation to MC Chris enough...the man opens his house to Denise and I and makes us feel right at home. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful home. My wife and I loved the whole experience and I would love to return the favor someday. I especially appreciate the bed with the framing that allowed me to swing down onto the bed with some velocity...it has been a long time sice we have played "Me Tarzan, You Jane" The music was just awesome. I love playing these things because I get to play "lead singer" and sing songs that I normally don't get to sing with my band. I have wanted to play Love Removal Machine for years now, and finally got the chance. I would have played that song with anyone, but it was icing on the cake to share the stage with MC Chris on that one. Dude....we smoked that song, The Cult would have been proud!! LOL!!! Sharing the stage with so many great players and wonderful people is just an amazing feeling. Rob- Next year we break out the hair metal...I am thinking some Dokken, and some Priest would be in order. CTrixie - We will have to wait another year to redeem ourselves on Surrender Ken - It took some serious balls to get on that stage in front of so many people and improvise like you did...that kicked ass. Don't sell yourself short, you can play bro. Getting over the stage jitters ain't easy and you deserve a huge round of applause for that. Kudos. Butcher - D and I were shocked to see you there and it is always a pleasure. Damn, you can play. I love your easy laid back style and would give a lot of things to play like that. Mike - One of the highlights of the weekend was sitting down at the bar with you, Chris, and Johhny Thunders on Fri night. Denise and I were laughing all the way home about the conversation that night. Fun stuff...always a pleasure. Tom - I don't think that D and I will have any kids, but thank you for removing all possibility by sterilizing me with that damn Ampeg amp. That thing was so loud and shook my balls so violently, that I am sure I am now shooting blanks. Too many great people and players to list...and don't get me started on the guitars and amps. Some mighty fine equipment in that store. -
Your boy may have the chops...but you still have the look bro!. LOL!! Give him some hair pointers when you get the chance.

This is why I love this place... I sincerely thank each and every one of you. This is going to be something I have to sit down and discuss with the band. If it were up to me, I would wind up blowing a bunch of dough and do it right...but it isn't only my call and the last thing I want to do is foot the entire bill. I know for a fact that we need to get a new head/mixer. I believe that the venues we play are small enough to be able to use these without sounding like shit. I will go and check out the Mackie tonight and see what I think. -

Nice...but that really looks like overkill for our needs. We play mostly small bar gigs with the acoustic act. What do you think of the amp that I listed? Do you see any glaring omitions that would defeat the purpose of upgrading? -

OK...did some poking around on the Carvin site and came across this nice looking unit. We already have a Yamaha monitor so we would keep that. Also, I just got off the phone with the other guys and they all would like to get as independent from the electric band as possible. This may kill all our birds with one stone. Here is how our acoustic band sets up... 1. 3 guitars, but only 2 will be played most of the time. 2. 3 Vocals....all important vocals because we take pride in our 3 part harmonies. Very few bands can sing like us. No percussion or anything else... One of the drawbacks that I can see with this mixer is that there seems to be a universal phantom power feature...this shouldn't be an issue for us because we don't use any condensers, just good ole fashioned Sennheiser and Shure dynamic mics. Do you guys think that this unit will deliver the goods? Carvin Stage Mate -

Is this the one you are using? Carving This looks very appealing...especially considering the price. This compares favorably to the Mackie? -

I am sure that is part of the issue, but it doesn't explain me sounding like shit when I am playing a song solo. I am looking into the Soundcraft Gigarac 600...anyone know anything about this? BTW...the Speakers we are using are the Yamaha BR series. -
OK...played another acoustic gig last night and I have had it with this shit. We played awesome, and the place loved us, but we sounded like shit. We are using a small setup that farts out constantly. Here is our current setup. 1. Peavey Powered mixer...8 channels 2. Yamaha 12"speakers with horns and a Yamaha monitor Everything sounds great individually, but once we all play it sounds awful. Also, I am still having problems with my acoustic sound. For the life of me I can't figure this out...I did a solo version of Hotel California and it sounded like my 12 string was going through a fuzz box. I am at my wits end here guys...help a brother out...WTF are we doing wrong? I don't mind spending money to upgrade, but I find it hard to believe that even this modest setup should sound this bad.

Electronics in an acoustic
edgar_allan_poe replied to edgar_allan_poe's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Yup...I wound up getting this guitar... Breedlove It took some serious wheeling and dealing but eventually I wound up with zero out of pocket expenses. I had to say goodbye to some serious tubes and an amazing amplifier, but this is exactly what I need. I should have it before the week is out. -
Electronics in an acoustic
edgar_allan_poe replied to edgar_allan_poe's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I have tried very hard to like Ovations. Unfortunately, every 12 string model I tried has that awful (IMHO) V shaped neck. The price is right on this Breedlove, it will be a straight up trade for an amp. I am just wondering if it will be too much of a PITA because my current Breedlove already has electronics. That means that I will have to have two seperate channels on the board because they will have different settings. I played an Atlas 12 String at Gregs that I loved, but my money situation makes that almost impossible. The only reason that this is even being considered is because it is a straight up trade. You guys have given me a lot to think about. Thanks... -
Hey guys...I have an opportunity to trade for a Breedlove Classic XII 12 string. The guitar looks spectacular but it doesn't have any electronics, and I need them to do gigs. Couple of questions for you guys. 1. I don't want to route the guitar so I would probably just go with an output on the end pin and have an outboard acoustic pre. Any recomendations? 2. Will this effect the acoustic tone? 3. Should I just wait to get one with the electronics? 4. How difficult is it to mic an acoustic guitar in a live situation? I have a couple of decent condensers... Thanks in advance for the help. BTW We play small venues for the acoustic gig, nothing large.

The Most Gratifying Time I've spent in a long time
edgar_allan_poe replied to a topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
It is rewarding...no question. There are days I would do my job for free. Teaching has rewards that far exceed the salary. -
The Cali I had had an identical neck to my Soloist at the time. The Centaura neck I had was pencil thin and the Chap was very similar to the Cali and the Soloist.
-
I would respectfully disagree. The early Jacksons are every bit as good and in most cases better than the Hamer shredders. Bang for the buck would still go to Hamer, no question. But for $800 you can pick up a neck through Jackson Soloist that will absolutely smoke. If you aren't concerned with the name on the headstock, then I would also recommend checking out the early 90s Charvel Model 6's. These were made in Japan, and Jackson had a fit because the Charvels were kicking the USA Jacksons ass. Seriously amazing guitars, neck through, same electronics as a Soloist, same hardware, and every bit as well made. The Charvel Model 6s can be had for $400-600 depending on condition and color which is stoooopid cheap when you consider what you are getting. I owned a Cali, Chap, and a Centaura....my nod goes to the Jacksons and the early 90s Charvels in this particular instance. The main difference between the Hamers and the Jackson/Charvels is construction. The Hamers are either bolt ons, or set necks. The Jacksons/Charvels are neck through. Both have their advantages and disadvantages....play as many as you can find before you make a decision.

Big +1....but that pickguard is still "GAY". ROTFLMAO! BTW...my wife told me that if you were heavier, she would be all over you. LOL!!! -
As do I.....I have no recollection of that ever taking place.

And I will do the same bro... BTW Have you ever noticed that free beer tastes better?
-
Stonge...haven't you learned? Every time you go down this path, you wind up having to buy me a beer. LOL!!!! My vote goes for the "backup" thread. Watching Junkee and Joe go at it was some seriously funny shit.
