No one that matters. That song is played for the female *dancers* who are there to have a good time. I could give two shits about the dudes at the bar with their arms crossed saying to themselves "I could do that better..." -

I agree...but we aren't in a recording studio and 99.9999999% of the crowd could care friggin less how authentic the horns sound. As long as they aren't a complete joke(aka Casio keyboard sounds) they work plenty fine. Like I said before...playing in a cover/dance band requires major sacrifice of not only ego, but standards as well. Remember, we play that song at around 1:30AM when the crowd is good and plastered. Trust me bro...no one is standing in the audience saying "THOSE ARE DIGITAL HORNS!!! DAMN THEM!!!" LOL!! -

Our singer is actually a very good keyboard player...when he wants/needs to be. -

I can sing that, but don't need to 'cuz our lead singer can handle that easily. We do the three part harmony on that one though. Great tune. Exactly why I said that dance tunes require you to put away your guitar playing ego. D to G the entire tune... -

Enter Sandman as a dance floor packing tune? Here is what works for us....everytime. Dance floor tunes require you to put your ego as a guitar player aside. Sultans of Swing is one of my all time favorite tunes(yes, I can play it note for note), but if we played that, people would yawn and fall asleep. 1. Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes 2. Centerfold - J Giles 3. Song #2 - Blur 4. Fight for your right to party - Beastie Boys 5. Play that funky music - Wild Cherry 6. Shook me all night long - AC/DC 7. Bawitdaba - Kid Rock 8. Authority song - J Cougar 9. IWYTWM - Cheap Trick 10 867-5309 - Tommy Tutone 11 Use your love tonght(Josie) - ???? 12 Jessies Girl - Rick Springfield 13 Summer of '69 - Brian Adams 14 Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison 15 Pour Some Sugar on me - Def Lep 16 American Girl - Petty 17 Don't Stop Believing - Journey 18 Seperate Ways - Journey 19 Boys of Summer - Don Henley 20 Jungle Boogie 21 What I got - ????? If you play these, and they don't go over, you are playing them wrong/poorly. PERIOD. -
Smoking ban coming - giggers opinions?
edgar_allan_poe replied to Zoner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Next? It already started a couple of years ago. There are a boatload of restaurants and producers of food who are under intense pressure to remove hydrogenated oils from their recipes. That stuff is awful for your body. But again...isn't that our responsibility? Isn't it up to me...the consumer...to determine what I would like to eat? I don't eat the stuff. I avoid it like the plague. But the govt has no place telling McDonalds that they have to cook their fries in a different oil. -
Smoking ban coming - giggers opinions?
edgar_allan_poe replied to Zoner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Sorry bro, I disagree. It absolutely *is* the Govt telling business owners how to run their establishments. Again, I am a non smoker, so the smoking ban will not effect me in any type of negative way. The workers argument is a red herring IMHO. I could see if the establishment was the only place in town that supplied a particular service...but that isn't the case. People make the choice to work in these bars because they make money. They can go elsewhere and make just as much. If you got into the bar tending field expecting a smoke free environment, then you are an idiot. That would be like me complaining about the fact that 99.9999% of my students stink to high heaven this time of year because they don't have a clue about hygiene. I just played a gig last night at a notoriously smoky bar. I play there because they pay me well, and their crowd loves us. I could very easily play elsewhere, but I *choose* to play there because it is a known quantity and they take care of us. My choice. For me to turn around and bitch about the environment is goddamn unamerican. -
Smoking ban coming - giggers opinions?
edgar_allan_poe replied to Zoner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Pittsburgh is kicking this around as well. I am torn on this issue. I don't like going to bars and being bombarded by smoke, but I also don't like the Govt sticking its nose in private business. Smoking is not illegal. IMHO a business owner has every right to run his business as he sees fit. And we have a right to choose to show up...or not. Give the Govt an inch and they will take a mile. IMHO this is a slippery slope and I am not sure where it will go. -
Saw the live video on TV and was unimpressed. Can't recall what the song was but I just didn't dig it. I did note a heavy Sabbath and Zep influence though. Still, the tune I heard just didn't do it for me. I'll check out some more stuff from them and give them another shot though.

LOL!! Because he has every piece of gear ever made? Except the ones that Kurtstuff and Isham got before he did. ROTFLMAO!!! Send the settings Mobbie, cuz I can't get this el34/6l6 combo sounding good. Damn dude...that actually *is* a friggin fantastic idea. I would buy one in a heartbeat! Seriously, for our smaller clubs that would be awesome. No BS bro...you should call them about that. I would bet just about everyone gigging with a Roadking would by this for smaller clubs. Hell...I would probably use both and have an A/B amp switcher on the floor with the TWO Kontrollers. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a problem bro...I knew where you were going with your posts and it made perfect sense. I have to admit that the RK will be overkill in our smaller clubs. But at venues like last night or the Hard Rock, this thing is just a wall of sound. -
He could tell you, but then he would have to kill you. lol

They don't have a 50 watt combo, I was referring to the fact that you have the choice to make all 4 channels 50 watts if you so choose. The head isn't terribly heavy. It weighs more than my Fargen but it isn't back breaking. The Cajun Cannon is heavy, but has casters. The head/cab combo really works well for me. Exactly...I haven't seen anything that does. It is more than just having those choices though. Having the choice is nice, but useless if it sounds like ball cheese. This thing has *killer* tone on all channels and all tube configs (except the EL34/6L6 combo so far). -

Phoenix...or Mobbie and Junkee for that matter... Have any of you guys had any success mixing the power sections? I can't get the EL34/6L6 combo to sound good. If you guys could post some settings it would be appreciated. -

Yes...last night was pretty loud. I have the gain on channels 3&4 turned down to about 75%. Channel 3 was at 6-7 and channel 4 was at 5. There is also a solo button that you can set that gives the desired amount of boost you want for solos. -

In all honesty, this Roadking is dead simple to operate. I haven't done anything with the cab switching yet, but the Carr Rambler can't go from a 4x6l6 power tube section and with the touch of a footswitch go to 50 watt 2xEL34. What you are describing is exactly what I was doing with my Fargen. This Boogie is a seriously superior set up, and despite the intimidating looking front panel it is stupid simple to operate. For a dude like myself in a cover band, I cannot imagine a better amp. I have 5 *different* power amps built into this thing, and each of the 4 channels has three different modes. Here is how I currently have mine set. Channel 1 - 4X6l6 on the power amp side and I have it set to the Tweed setting on the preamp (Uber Clean setting) Channel 2 - 2XEL34 on the Power amp side and I have it set to the Brit setting on the preamp. (Old Marshall) Channel 3 - 2XEL34 on the Power amp side and I have it set to the Vintage setting on the preamp. ( Modded Marshall) Channel 4 - 4X6l6 on the power amp side and I have it set to the Modern setting on the preamp (Over the top modern sound) I haven't had *any* luck in getting a good sound with the 6l6/EL34 combined. Once you find the tones you are looking for on each channel, all of that is accessed via a 7 button footswitch. It even has 4 different reverb settings, one for each channel. Again, set 'em and forget 'em. Each of the OD channels cleans up wonderfully. Even the insane channel 4 will clean up with a roll of the volume on the guitar. This thing is a homerun in every sense of the word. The gig last night was awesome, and the Boogies sounded friggin *huge*. We played a tune with a drop D tuning and the bass player leaned over after the tune a said to me "Holy fuck that thing sounds fucking massive!" LOL!!!! -

Turbo covered the major differences between the two amps. The reason I chose the Roadking over the Roadster was simple. IIRC the Roadster was around 2K. The Roadking did everything that the Roadster did, and then it has this magnificent EL34 section that I really dig. Because my Roadking was a version I, I was able to walk out the door for a hair under 2K. No brainer from my standpoint. I have heard that the Roadking II and the Roadster have much better cleans than the RKI. Well, I was playing them side by side and I heard *very* little difference. The Roadster did have a better, more natural sounding reverb, but that means nothing to me when playing live. These small differences didn't even come close to justifying a Roadster or RKII purchase IMHO. I simply didn't see a $600 difference between the RKI and the RKII/Roadster. I agree. I can get some tones that are close, but nothing that has that EL84 chime out of my Roadking. But Mesa has this out, and it is under 1K. For Vox lovers, this might be your thing. I am hesitant though because it looks like the power section is a class A/B, and IMHO the class A design is the magic behind that tone. Still, given the level of satisfaction with this Roadking, I am much more willing to give the Express 5:25 a listen. Mesa Express 5:25 -
Nah....Hamer would never do that.

Asinine. Absolutely zero reason for that much of an up charge.

Checkerboard....or anything else you think would be cool. Embossed leather? yeah...that sounds good as well. Let me know what you can get and work with. I just want a 4x10 semi open back cab, 8 ohm...cajun style. Instead of the Cajun Cannon, we will call it the Cajun Howitzer. LOL!! -

Ahhh, I see. According to the Emi site, the Wizard is a combo of the Gov and the Private Jack. Maybe I need to find a used Gov to try it out. Thanks for the tip. -
Disagree. It is true you could probably have Hamer build you that guitar. But it would probably cost just as much and it wouldn't be a part of Hamer history. I understand this. To take this to the extreme to make a point.... You can get Gibby to make you a dead nutz on Jr. But people will still pay 10K for a clean vintage TV Jr. I know that it isn't the same thing, but I think you get my point. The collectible market is more about history than wood and wire. This is a part of Hamer history, and that cannot be replicated.

I have a Private Jack that would probably sweeten things up a bit, but I will lose that whollop on the low end. I am OK with this, it sounds great. As far as the Fargen goes, let me make this perfectly clear. The best two amps I have ever heard are my 6L6 Fargen Bordeaux and my EL34 Fargen Bordeaux. This does not replace them. I can get close, but not there. The problem with the Fargen was the fact that my band plays such a wide variety of music, I was being forced to use a clumsy pedal board to achieve the sounds I needed. Couple that with the fact that we have been booked at a place that will require us to play some seriously heavy stuff, and the Fargen just couldn't do all of that. To be fair, it really isn't designed for that. This Boogie simplifies my life greatly, *and* provides outstanding tone. If I had to choose one amp to take to a deserted island, it would be the Fargen Bordeaux. But I wouldn't be playing in a cover band that does everything from K.C and the Sunshine band, to The Cult, to Seals and Croft, to Godsmack and Megadeth on a deserted island. LOL!! You know me too well. I need to get cajunboy off of his LAZY ASS and make me the 4x10 I have been BEGGING him to build!! ROTFLMAO!! I love him and curse him all at the same time. He has spoiled me. May the fleas of 1000 camels infest his armpits. -

Yes. I have a choice of any tube combination on any channel. You can choose to have all 4 channels run at 50 watts if that is what you want. You can also choose which power tubes will run on each channel. I currently have channel 2 and 3 set up as 50 watt EL34 channels. Channel 2 sounds *damn* close to the 1972 50 watt Marshall I bough off of Kiz a few years ago. Channel 3 sounds like the baddest assed modded 50 watt Marshall on the planet.
