  1. That's not from the 70s though. Is that the original finish? Never seen an 80s burst like that. Yes that was the origonal colour ,guitar is sold now I think it was a very early 1980 to be honest. Had the wider string spacing at bridge ,farily chunky neck for the time. The back was Cherry.
  2. Wow just heard the news Sad for sure. Cant really understand how these great guitars never really caught on. Think they got off to a great start with lots of top players Barre,Summers,Neilson,Turner etc using various models Should have really capitolised on this Marketing to blame maybe? Anyway real shame if its the end.
  3. What are the prices of custom guitars like in comparison to production old stuff?
  4. Just looked at Hamer website Studio Custom still available or is it expensive due to custom shop prices.
  5. Congrats on a damm fine repair, looks like new, amazing considering the origonal mess it was in. Reincarnation indeed, well done Greg.
  6. Dammit we need more pics of this masterpiece Suspense is killing
  7. Wish Hamer would use the Old Burst colours from the 70's much better than todays colours i.m.o.
  8. 1980 Darkburst
  9. Nice guitars man How much for the Darkburst ?
  10. Dont think the Sunburst sounds like a Les Paul at all Doesnt have the bottom end grunt of a Gibbo,it does have lot more 'Snap' with stronger Attack to the notes though. Studio Custom is the closest Hamer to a L.P. i.m.o.
  11. The headstock sure does look more like a 80/81 model with the less pronounced 'lip' ,shorter headstock. Only saw this type on later than 79 models, new neck fitted perhaps? 5cm nut width? thats huge ,normally 4.2cm.
  12. Cant beat a fine pair
  13. I think its difficult to pin down the neck profiles to any particular year of manufacture. Ive had 3 79,s a 1980 and present a 1981 Sunburst and the 79,s all had thinner necks than the 80 and 81. I noticed the 80 and 81 had a flatter fingerboard radius (12"?) than the tighter 79,s (10"?) also. The neck on the 1981 is about the same depth as a medium 90,s Hamer and definately much deeper than an early 90,s model. The only thing of consistency noticed is all the early Hamers have narrow necks 42mm width at nut and 50mm width at 12th fret. The latter Hamers are 43mm width nut and 51-52mm 12th fret.
