  1. The JMP and JCM800 2203's and 2204's have the same components, but the internal voltages are tweaked on the jcm800 to make it a bit more aggressive compared to the slightly smoother and warmer JMP.
  2. Korina Jr??In europe??? Wish I could afford it, I'd have 2 then....!!
  3. Actually polara, you make a really good point. It would , IMHO be well worth Hamer doing a "tour box" of a new model to pass round the HFC.It would be a good way of getting feedback and giving us all GAS, as we are, after all the target market!!
  4. Its a friendly little community!! I like it!!The good thing about this gear doing the rounds is if you're thinking of buying something you can be sure that someone else has had it 1st, so you can get some good unbiased info on it before you buy!!
  5. These aren't really hiwatts other than the naem. They'r eok , but nowhere near approaching the quality of the real ones. They're actually made for Music Ground in the UK. If you're into the origanal hiwatt feel, see if you can try out a harry joyce. They are being made under licence from harry's widow by Matamp.
  6. A few years ago my band at the time did a warmup gig at an open mic band night. It was clearly a platform for the guy who ran it to show everyone how great he was. After promising us as long as we wanted (we were the only band there apart from him) he literally pulled the plug on us after 3 songs. He basically turned the vocals off so we looked stupid. He messed with the vocal mic while we were playing so it kept cutting out to make us look crap , and was generally an arse.Shouted at me about my amp placement, (it was vocal pa only, not even mic'd up we had the usual amp at the rear on each side of the stage) and made me move it in front, (I think so I couldn't hear it as well) had a go at the drummer cos he tidied the drums away afterwards(which was how they were when we came in) basically I think he couldn't take the competition and cut us off as soon as he realised we could actually play. We didn't go back. There are some arseholes out there, IMHO if you get a reaction out of these types of people then you're doing something right!!
  7. About this high, somewhere between gut and johnson. I used to play a lot lower, but later I decided that people would be much more impressed if I played better than if I looked cooler!! Playing not that well was not so cool I thought....
  8. I'll never swap pickups. In fact I've only ever done it twice.Once in a korean tokai lp cos I got a cheap gibbo humbucker, and once in my lp custom, I swapped the crappy HB's out for a set of P90's. but it took me 15 years to do it!! I think that theres so much choice (too much!!) I'd rather keep them in than swap em, otherwise you'd never make your mind up. I realise that most of the boutique makers can improve on the stock pickups, but I reckon if it ain't broke don't fix it.If you buy a decent guitar it'll have decent pickups in it already, and you can bet they've already gone through the process of testing which sounds best. Also if a guitar sound scrap I wouldn't buy it anyway.
  9. Yes I will hopefully soon be the proud owner of polara's artist!! Interesting but I used to not like gigging nice instruments either, in fact I bought a beat to shit les paul special for exactly that purpose. But lately, my opinion has changed.A good guitar is a joy to play, and while I wouldn't gig a collectors item, I would certainly gig the korina jr and I'm sure will gig the artist, although if I ever play anywhere really horrible I'll take the beat up special.I have a lp custom that I've owned since new in 1990, and now its really battle scarred and roadweary, so much so I actually nearly retired it.But lately I think that "keepers" (like my hamer jr) should be gigged.I don't care if they get dinged or bashed, because they're still cool instruments, nothing stays mint forever, and I don't care about resale value cos I won't be selling!!!Every bump and ding will be well earned, and look how cool relic guitars can be!!
  10. Well, I think both sound equally great , hence the poll, but like most things in life, these things have a way of working themselves out, and as usual fate has intervened!!More of an update later.
  11. That is what I have found to be true as well. We have all have different ways of describing tone but I agree with your choice of words and you put it better than I ever did. I didn't think of it as more upper mids and highs just in my venacular more high end clarity and pop. Jack....Alder over Korina? Korina and Mahogany are the ultimate guitar woods IMHO. sorry brewmaster, I missed twhat you just said, I was distracted by your avatar!!
  12. I'm just having a blast playing the korina jr.It just gets better and better, and the more I hear it back on practice recordings the more I like it.really raw, articulate sound, complex and versatile too, and paired with the matamp a pretty unique sound compared to what I hear in the other practise rooms I reckon. For my next hamer I was thinking about an artist.I thought about getting a mahogany one, as that would be a little different from the korina jr, but then again it sounds so flippin awesome maybe I might enjoy a korina artist more??But then again that means I'll have 2 very similar guitars, maybe it would be better having something in mahogany as its a little different.... So, those of you with mahogany AND korina hamers, what do you think??!!
  13. Black is beautiful??gratuitous porn???That'll be ayana angel then!!
  14. I just love the look of cream sopabars on a black guitar with white binding.Killer!!
  15. Yeah I had thought that.....This whole idea was sort of brought about by the fact i missed out on a great looking artist!!!Haven't seen any mahogany P90 artists for sale, I wonder if they made/sold many...
  16. Still absolutely love the korina Jr, so I've been thinking about what my next hamer is gonna be. I was thinking that the artist might be the way to go.I was thinking about getting one in mahogany with P90's and a wrapover.I'm after something similar to my jr, same neck profile, similar feel/sound and something that I'd like as much.I had thought about a studio or something, but I thought that might be too similar to the korina jr, and I'm not mad keen on maple tops. I thought that the artist might have the same neck profile, similar shape/size/weight/feel/vibe, the neck pickup and f hole would give me a little something extra that my korina jr doesn't have, and I thought the fhole and mahogany construction might give it a slightly different flavour to the tone, similar but not identical to the korina jr. I was also hoping that the semi solid construction might give me a touch more feedback than my jr, so I can get that on the edge of feedback sustaining type sound.I was also hoping the artist might have a similar vibe to the jr tone wise, i.e. raw phat and dirty. Any artist owners out there wanna give me their opinion??And if you have/had a korina jr to compare it to, all the better!!
  17. hehe you guys know me too well!! Not sure about this one...not sure I'll like the finish and shipping and taxes to UK would be a LOT..!!
  18. I find that the dogear on my korina Jr has a bit more bark and growl to it whereas the soapbars in my lp special are cleaner.
  19. I use my Matamp's gain for my main overdrive, but I use a maxon od820 set at a slightly dirty boost for solos. I read an interesting article by Pete Cornish about this.He said if you use a od or fuzz pedal for your main sound and another pedal for a volume boost, put that pedal at the end of the chain otherwise all you do is add noise rather than volume.
  20. I'm a les paul man wanting to buy his first Hamer.I hope I like it as much as you like yours!!
