Hamer Tuner Question

Question

Hello all,

I removed the tuners from my 1986 Chaparral this week and noticed there is a number stamped on the part that rests against the headstock.  They are Hamer branded....Three have the number "1"  and three have the number "6" stamped on them.  They appear to all be the same but wondering if there is some importance to the numbers on them.  Anyone know the reason or meaning?

Thanks,

Jon C

So here is a pic showing the numbers on the "against the neck" side of the tuners.  As mentioned above, there are 3/3 of each.

Small die castings like these are typically cast in multi-cavity dies. This is done so that multiple parts can be created during a single cycle time, lowering the cost per piece. It looks like the tool was made with at least six cavities. The numbers are cast in so they can monitor the condition of the tool. If defects start showing up in parts from a specific cavity, they know which one needs attention.

Makes sense.  I thought they might refer to treble side or bass side on a headstock that has 3-3 configuration....the Chap is inline, of course.   Guess there are some tuners out there with  2, 3, 4, 5, 7..... stamps.  Okay then, moving on.  Thanks to all for the responses.
