Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 Still a great album. I guess there is no universal music that appeals to everyone. That being said, if you haven't listened to it, there's a good chance you're missing out on something you'll enjoy. https://www.amazon.com/music/player/artists/B001AJE4MK/generic-hustle 3 Quote

Brooks Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 (edited) Thx for the kind words Nate & SpecialK. GH Trombonist/producer/engineer Dr Brian Thacker & family stopped by for a few days last month, hadn't seen him since he moved & GH ended in 2010. I still make noise w/ GH bassist/susaphonist Kolton (w/ beard & hat). Edited August 11, 2025 by Brooks 4 Quote

I still make noise w/ GH bassist/susaphonist Kolton (w/ beard & hat). The occasion for pulling out the CD ths time is I've decided to add GH to my Neo-Swing rotation. Along with Squirrel Nut Zippers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Brian Setzer, and the swing subset from Cherry Poppin Daddies. Yeah, I know, it's not an exact fit, but it's the closest classification I can get. Moreover, when I'm in a new-swing mood, GH still scratches that itch. If I had a "horn band" folder, like for some of the Chicago songs, the Ides of March, Earth Wind Fire & Rain, etc., *maybe* I'd put it there, but a) I don't have such a folder, and b) the tuba really puts GH closer to Dixiland/jazz than R&B, which is really about as close to neo-swing as Stray Cats and some of the hot jazz Squirrel Nut Zippers did. I'd say while the horns are a common factor, and "Vehicle" is yet another common point that could almost be a Chicago song, it just seems to me that Chicago, et al, use horns differently than the neo-swing, and I guess I just feel like GH is closer to the jazz side of musical heredity than R&B. I'm open to arguments I'm wrong, tho. Edited August 12, 2025 by Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame stickin it to the man 3 Quote
