Brooks Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) Big fan. Not their best (Deliverance), but several good tunes. Guest drummer Stanton Moore also has some good jazz funk releases w/ Will Bernard. https://youtu.be/CKK7ezn2tig?si=iXwKCqnLjcG1UL8K Edited April 8 by Brooks 1 Quote
Jack C Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I’m a big COC fan, but I can’t get into their last couple albums. It’s just reverb drenched meandering stuff to me. They have abandoned their punk and thrash roots. Not my thing. Quote
LucSulla Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Huge COC fan. Best thing they've done since In the Arms of God. 34 minutes ago, Jack C said: I’m a big COC fan, but I can’t get into their last couple albums. It’s just reverb drenched meandering stuff to me. They have abandoned their punk and thrash roots. Not my thing. That's not how I walked away from spinning it all yesterday, personally. This album has some of the most aggressive stuff they've done since the title track of the above (that outro riff on ITAOG is still one of the heaviest things put down on tape, IMO). It's also got some of the most classic rock stuff since America's Volume Dealer. They haven't really done anything like crossover hardcore since Technocracy, which was almost 40 years ago. There's a little bit of Thrash still around on Blind, but that was pretty much gone by Deliverance. "Albatross" was about how they didn't feel there was much hardcore about the hardcore scene any more and wanting to get away from it. That was eight albums back. If you told me either one of these were tracked between Blind and Deliverance, I don't think I'd bat an eye. But I will admit I'm biased. Pepper is on my shortlist of favorite Mississippi musicians ever. 1 Quote
Jack C Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I’ll give it another chance. I actually loved the Animosity era lineup stuff they put out before Pepper came back. If they did that kind of stuff with him singing, it would be amazing. 1 Quote
LucSulla Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Random fact - Jason Everman, the original drummer for Nirvana who ended up a Green Beret and Ranger, does the spoken word stuff at the end of "Run for your Life." It's spooky as hell. 1 Quote
Dave Scepter Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Honestly, I'm in the wrong group. There's way too many guys here that love COC!!! 🤣 4 Quote

The liner notes finish wish a phone number to call if you're a vet in distress or know one. The bit Everman does is a spoken word thing about deciding not to die. 1 Quote

He played guitar on Mind Funk's 2nd album Dropped, which is a great grungy 90s album. Shortly after That album & tour he started his military career. I think he eventually went to school and got a masters in philosophy. Interesting dude, there a short doc somewhere on YT Edited April 27 by Brooks 2 Quote

For some reason, I just blotted the facts that Nirvana had two guitarists and that Chad Channing was the original drummer from my memory. I imagine there credited him because he did pay the $600 for Bleach to get made (at least remembered that much correctly). 1 Quote
