I actually saw my first Genesis last month at a pawn shop. It was stripped. I doubt you want that...

I've seen them and I know photos don't do them justice. I was thinking more in terms of the gibson purple burst being the inspiration for the Trio. Of course I'm speculating but given the finish of the Gibby I don't think it's too much of a strecth.

either way the gibby is cool and the Hamers are cooler.

What's the skank on the Genesis? Local pawn shop had 2 of them last year. I'll admit that I gave them a second look, as I'd never seen one prior to that.

;)

if i remember correctly the genisis is a USA made epiphone... really nice playing neck and thick chunk of wood... sound wonderful.... puts a LP to shame in some instances... but thats my opinion...if you can find one locally play it.. youll buy it right then

The Epi Genesis was never USA made. They were made in Japan, although some at Harmony Central claim to have Taiwanese models. (One of the entries is from the deisgner - interesting...) Its main characteristic, aside from the obvious Les Paul/Orville ethos, is that they had great chunky necks. Virtually everything I've read about them is enthusiastically positive. One flaw I've noticed in cruising for these guitars is that the output jack area is prone to cracks and breakage because of the thin wood over control cavity. Genesis-itis? They were made in Standard and Custom variants with the usual trappings. All had coil taps.

I was very interested at one point, but became less so when their prices started to approach Yamaha SG and Ibanez Artists realms -- complicating the decision making. I was also a little worried about how well it would balanced on my lap. I actually think it's quite elegant.

I'm glad I sat it out though. Now I'm one of you Hamer believer types. (This is obviously not an issue with Sir. Douglas.) Also check http://www.diamondstrings.com/inventor.htm, they had 4 or 5 in stock at one point.

Was going to post a pic but can't find that option in this reply form...
