andrew m Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Any info on what Hamer model Steve Stevens is playing in this clip? It looks Phantom-ish, except for the extended horn on the bottom.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vms2lt2O3bE...ch=billy%20idol
HamStd Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 That is the original prototype to the Steve Stevens model. This was the first design that Jol came up with Steve Stevens. He hand delivered it to Stevens at SNL for the performance.Peter
DavidE Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Dang.... Steve DOES play that riff (the off beat one heard throughout the song) at the fifth position. My band just added this and I was playing it in the second position on the 2nd and 3rd strings.....

HamStd Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I believe there was a write up about this in an Old Guitar World article that Stevens said he liked the prototype but wanted it flipped over to be more unique in design. So Jol offered up this guitar. The SS I signature model to some extent had the top cutaway on the prototype trimmed down to be symmetrical to the bottom cutaway.Definitely giving the kahler a workout on that one. Last time I talked with him, he said that the guitar was floating around NYC still.Peter.

MCChris Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 File that alongside Ty Tabor's reverse-body Cali. Both very cool guitars!
andrew m Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Amen. The reverse looking guitars are pretty cool looking.

Jack C Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 File that alongside Ty Tabor's reverse-body Cali. Both very cool guitars! I believe that one is owned by "Ego" the mod of one of the KX boards - and a friend of the band. He swears he'll never get rid of it.
cmatthes Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Steve DOES play that riff (the off beat one heard throughout the song) at the fifth position.Yep - I've been playing it that way since the band I was in in High School!

I'm gonna learn the right way...

cmatthes Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Naw...just OLD!!! (I was in High School when that song came out!)
DavidE Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Naw...just OLD!!! (I was in High School when that song came out!) What year did it come out? I graduated high school in 1981.
JohnnyB Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 SO that is a total one off then? Very cool looking. The kahler looks like it plays more smoother than a Floyd. I have one that's almost exactly like it, except the body's flipped over like it's s'posed to be, has a black headstock, gorgeous orange flame maple top, tortoise pickguard, and tun-o-matic/stoptail instead of the Kahler.
Mike_C Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I wonder...IF you realyle wanted a Hamer like that if they would make a lefty version of the 98 phantom custom with right hand controls ask for a kahler since they are being made again and paint it white with matching headstock and there you go.
