alpep Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 from the Hamer website:New for 2006, Hamer will unveil a limited edition Studio Custom at Winter NAMM. Production will be limited to only 30 of these unique and collectible guitars.Based on Hamer’s popular Studio Custom model, this double cutaway beauty features a multi-stripe, bound Honduras Mahogany body with a hand-carved, book-matched flamed Redwood top. A Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and 10 Mother-of Pearl “Victory” inlays complement its bound Mahogany neck. Also featuring Tone Pros nickel hardware and two Seymour Duncan SLU humbucking pickups. Available only in Redwood finish.
santellavision Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The pup's are perfect matched for this guitar. (I own #30 of 30) The neck is open and airy with no mud at all. It's hard to explain exactly what they sound like. Kind of what is the PAF sound? There can be 20 different definitions of that sound. All I can say is the neck p/u is just right and sounds great through all my amps. (Gabriel Voxer w/2x12" Tone Tubby Cab, '52 Tweed Fender Pro w/15" Jensen, Victorilux 3x10 Jensen, and Ampeg V2 and THD Bi-Valve heads into 2x10 Fane Cab) My pet peeve is dark, muddy neck pup's. This one is great and totally useable. And you can switch between the neck/bridge and not have a huge vol/tone difference. Just the timbre of the position on the body changes, not the overall tone. I haven't pulled the p/u's so, I'm not sure if they both are exactly the same or different. The bridge does sound a bit more powerful, so, my guess is they are different. The magic of this series of guitars is the care and attention to detail in it. It's flawless. Finish, fret dressing, inlays. Beautiful wood, pics do not do it justice. There is a fine detail in the Redwood that does not show-up in pics unless they are shot with a macro lens. Somebody should grab it before their gone forever. Mine's a keeper. Heck, even Kurtstuff might keep it for more than a week!
Luke Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 from the Hamer website:New for 2006, Hamer will unveil a limited edition Studio Custom at Winter NAMM. Production will be limited to only 30 of these unique and collectible guitars. So if they are only making 30 of these, why does this one say 8 of 39 ?
seeker Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 The first 9 were prototypes and subsequently bandsawed.NOT. Just looks like a finish/surface flaw. Thought it was a funky looking Q myself.BTW, yes, I am lusting for one too.
Travis Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 The SLU stand for Slightly Less Ultimate. They are the Duncan Ultimates that did not get put into the Hamer Artist Ultimates. I have a set of Ultimates in my Artisk Korina and they may just be the perfect PAF pickup. Just my opinion.Killer guitar BTW.
Mike_C Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 SLU Duncans are the same as the pickups in the Hamer Ultimate Guitars. I forget exactly what the intials stand for Steve Ambrose knows.
santellavision Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I emailed Duncan's custom shop. Hopefully they'll email me back the specs.
alpep Posted July 25, 2006 Author Posted July 25, 2006 steve thanks for the explanation on the pickups. btw I tried calling you back several times a few weeks back and got no answering machine, but then my life turned to crap and I gave up on everyone and everything for a while. Hope you did not think I ignored you.al
