Jeff R Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Here's my entry in the contest for the longest and most photo-laced FS thread in HFC history... Selling my hotrodded '96 G&L Legacy and I'm offering here before the 'Bay, in an order to keep this in the HFC family. Here's the basics: -- Alder/maple, 22-frets with G&L's old-school three-bolt ultra-tight neck joint (no airspace like a CBS Fender). -- Finished in G&L's now-discontinued "tobaccoburst" that fades from amber to a transparent barbecue sauce reddish-brown. -- Upgraded neck pickup is a Duncan Antiquity Series "Texas Hot," handwound and IIRC signed on the bobbin by Seymour himself. Big fat howling SRV to Hendrix strat neck sounds -- Upgraded middle pickup to a Rio Grande "Tallboy." In addition to getting the "2" and "4" position quacks, it could be the first middle pickup in a strat that sounds good and useable by itself. -- Upgraded bridge pickup to a Duncan JB Junior. Still very stratty in tone but with a slight mid/throat boost and a shaving of the icepick highs strats yield in this position. -- I kept the PTB tone controls intact, so one tone is a treble rolloff control and the other is a bass rolloff control. -- Stock G&L Dual Fulcrum trem and Sperzel non-locking keys. Unless you get all Vai'd on it, it stays in tune. My only upgrade was I replaced the arm drag screw with one with a small head, so you can adjust the drag/swing of the trem bar on the fly without wrenches. Condition is very good, considering I've played this guitar extensively in the seven years I've owned it. There are some random dings and rubs here and there, most notably a nice pucker from an amp corner on the back of the guitar (treble side near the trem cavity). But overall, it looks great unless you're holding the guitar in your hands. If you are absolutely anal about stoopid ridiculous low action, it could probably use a fret leveling but it's currently set with what most players would deem as low action with no buzzing or fretting out. From a player's perspective, this could very well be "the" perfect strat-style production guitar. The weight is right in the middle, the neck shape has girth to an extent but it ultra-playable (think EBMM contours with a satin gloss), frets are jumbos and it is a Swiss Army knife of tones between the pickup upgrades and the PTB controls. I have yet to play ANY Legacy (or any other guitar from G&L), any Fender strat (including Custom Shop and even pre-CBS pieces) or any other nice strat clone that this guitar didn't bitchslap from a player's perspective. Cajun Boy (who graciously shot the photos below), foodermon, Kizanski, Poe and probably a few others on the board have played it and can vouch for just how bad ass of a strat this Legacy is. I'm selling it due to pressing needs involving another piece of gear, a limited personal budget (aka I have too many kids and too much mortgage to afford to get toys for Dad anymore) and iron-fist of enforcement of the "one goes in, one goes out" rule by certain occupants of my home. $750 shipped and insured with the G&L OHSC. The only trade I will consider will be towards a deal involving a nice Les Paul Standard. Here are the photos (thanks again, Cajun)...
Jeff R Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Edit to my original post...$700 shipped and insured. I forgot I offered that price to someone else on the HFC recently, and it's only fair that I extend that price to our entire family.
LordOfTheThighs Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 Thats purdy.Nice price on a great guitar.

Worth every penny.
Jeff R Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 SOLD and staying in the HFC family...it's heading to NC to join Brooks' gear arsenal. Sweet!
Brooks Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 ME!! ME!!oh yes, it will be mine. just got off the phone w/ jeffro.except superstrats, i haven't owned a true fender style ax since 7th grade (and didn't dig it then because i didn't sound like iommi, ha).took my sparklecaster to its 1st band rehearsal yesterday. had an epiphany; the thin fender tone that i don't dig playing by itself sounds perfect blended w/ the full band on most of our funk & ska type tunes. i thought if the sparklecaster sounds this good w/ its shortscale neck and floyd, maybe i need a NICE fender style ax.looked at the HFC this morning, bada BING!!! guess my LP jr jones will have to wait, as this G&L is more suited to what i'm playing right now.
MCChris Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 SOLD and staying in the HFC family...it's heading to NC to join Brooks' gear arsenal. Sweet!I like you, so I'm gonna be honest. This sucks. That guitar is synonymous with you. Shoulda never sold it. I don't care what you're replacing it with. And maybe it's easy for me to say as I ain't got no kids (not for lack of trying) but $750 should not make or break one's personal budget.Apologies for being a dick, but this is a disappointing thread.
MCChris Posted February 4, 2007 Posted February 4, 2007 shut the fuck up chris!!!!! hahaYou ain't the boss of me. And it's been dry as a bone around here for weeks, so I'm cranky. I've been stoned a grand total of once this calendar year. That ain't right.Seriously, it's one thing for lesser players to constantly flip gear because they're chasing a dream or they simply want to try out different gear, but you two are past that. You guys are on a level where certain pieces of gear actually become a part of your identities. This G&L and your Duotones fall into that category.

Jeff R Posted February 4, 2007 Author Posted February 4, 2007 Ever had one of those threads that you type a response, then hit "backspace" to delete it, then type a response again, then "backspace" again, type again and "backspace," type again and "backspace," type again and "backspace?"
thecajunboy Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Awwww Fuck! Damn Jeff, why didn't you tell me you was gonna offer it here first. I thought we were gonna stick it up somebody's ass on Ebay. Yesterday I took all the pickups out and installed some shitstompers outta a pawn shop B.A.Star strat I picked up. I autographed the neck pickup as Senor' DumbAss. And I almost got that big ole scar from the soldering iron cleaned up too.
