One of my faves if not my all-time was early 80's, Miles Davis w/Mike Stern on guitar on a double bill with the Pat Metheny Group on an absolutely beauful summer night outdoors when they used to have the Concerts on the Common in Boston, Ma. Wow, the memories of Miles turnin' around and yellin at Mike Stern to "play like Jimi'! LOL!!!!

Mid 70's AC DC, Thin Lizzy and Ronnie Montrose in Rochester NY.

Ted Nugent Alice Cooper two years a go in Nevada.

The Terry Reid Group opening for Cream: Chastain Park, Atlanta GA, 27 OCT 68. I hitch-hiked some 200 miles to get to this show.

I saw our very own Paults with his band, "The Reaganomics" open for Cheap Trick.

Top that!

The best concert pairing was probably Buddy Guy / Jeff Beck last year at the NIA in Birmingham. 4 rows from the front in the centre. You could hear peoples jaws hitting the floor with Beck!

Every time i've seen Rush over here(hold your fire(which was taped for Show of Hands) and R30 tour) they haven't had a support, Eric Johnson or Steve morse would have been cool (just trying to get my head around the 'Are you experianced' backwards solo played forwards by Johnson on the Austin City limits DVD).

I saw Def Leppard / Tesla in 87 as well at the Manchester Apollo, and I have to say that Tesla blew Def Leppard away. Friends left with Tesla T shirts and I bought the LP the day afterwards!

Geez, where to begin...

How about with Cheap Trick opening for KISS in Phoenix AZ, July '77. "In Color" was just being released.

Van Halen absolutely blew me away at the Long Beach Arena soon after. It was the homecoming show of their first album tour. I don't remember who opened for them, nor do I care... ;)

Saw Nazareth open for the 'Nuge as well, in Tempe AZ. Yes, absolutely deafening!

Thin Lizzy - Queen? ("A Day at the Races" Tour)

AC/DC - Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush? (Bon Scott era)

Rush and anybody they toured with. When they'd hit PHX/TUC back-to-back, we'd make the 120 mile trip.

Actually, the best pairing I've seen was back in about '80 when a friend of mine insisted we go to a club and check out this amazing guitarist he'd heard about.

After we got there and the lights dimmed, a strobe soon followed and at about the same time a wailing feedback vibrato guitar solo surrounded us as our eyes frantically scanned the stage for the source. Not long into the solo we began to see a skinny brother sportin' a 'fro and bright flowing scarves slowly, painfully, and soulfully writhe up on out of the dry ice fog like a voodoo chil' zombie a-risin' from the grave, reverse stratocaster a mere extension of the body, heart, mind, and soul. They said his name was Randy Hansen , but I swear to god I saw Jimi Hendrix play guitar that night! (and it wasn't just the roll-yer-owns... )

Paring? This was the first of two shows, and we promptly went and bought more tickets... :)

Check Randy out at YouTube...

Two gigs spring to mind...both at Hammersmith Odeon

Ratt opening for Ozzy (85/86 ish)...front row ticket...wow

Anthrax opening for Metallica in 1986.....a couple of weeks before before Cliff Burton was killed....The venue was completely trashed by the end of the night and the scenes were similar to the Spinal Tap Simpsons episode !...

These are my favorite pairing that I've seen personally:

'79 KISS w/ Priest opening.

'82 Priest w/ Iron Maiden opening.

'82 Billy Squier w/ Def Leppard opening. Right as "Pyromania" was taking off.

'83 Ozzy w/ Motley Crue opening. Their "Shout At The Devil" Tour.

'85 ('86?) Aerosmith w/ Ted Nugent opening.

Forgot this one:

I was working for a couple of weeks in Albany, NY in 1988. Robert Plant was touring there, and he had finally started to play a few Zep songs in his set, so I decided to go. I didn't know who the opening act was, but just before they came out, they played the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" at full concert volume. I'm thinking, "Who has the balls to come out after THIS?" You guessed it: Joan Jett!!!!
