Boogie1 Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Hey All- Just want to check it and say hi. I'm a new member, and a new Hamer owner. That's how I found this forum- surfing around when I was looking for my new axe. Anyway, someday I will get a USA but for now it's an import. I picked up a Hamer Standard XT Korina and absolutely love it. The fit and finish is impeccable, the neck is fast and it has incredible tone. Here's the good and the bad- when I was researching them I read a lot of reviews. I was kind of nervous about the Made in China quality. A lot of the reviews I read said to change the cheap pots and input jack. Sure enough, I brought it home (didn't plug it in at the store- I knew what I wanted, got it and got out of there) and sure enough, the input jack was defective and had a loud hum. I had a gig the next day and luckily my tech was able to replace and upgrade the jack and pots. In the process he found that the bridge pickup was wired incorrectly- wired for single coil! WTF? So much for MIC quality control! Fortunately the rest of the guitar was awesome. I also pimped it out with some nice chrome knobs. I also post pretty regularly on the Guitar Diner forum under the name Marshall Law. However, in the past couple months I have switched flags to Mesa Boogie. I use a Dual Rectifier, Boogie cabinet with Vintage 30's. I use all analog pedals, mostly Boss, (chorus, delay, overdrive, reverb, tuner) Dunlop Q95 switchless wah, Small Stone phase shifter. Other guitars are Les Paul Standard, Gibson Flying V, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Epiphone Alleycat semi-holow body, Ibanez Joe Satriani JS100. I am definitely a gear and pedal junkie and gear is always coming and going.
BTMN Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 Welcome!!!! G.A.S. will come if you put a Hamer USA in your hands. How you like the Schenker? Korean or USA?
mathman Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 For the price the Hamer XT standard is a nice guitar. I have the black and creme XT. Changed the pups but nothing else yet.

Boogie1 Posted May 19, 2007 Author Posted May 19, 2007 Welcome!!!! G.A.S. will come if you put a Hamer USA in your hands. How you like the Schenker? Korean or USA? The Dean Schenker V I have is a Korean- it's called the Custom. There is a bottom of the barrel bolt- on that GC sells for about $299 that looks almost exactly alike. The comes the Custom that sells for about $800- that's mine. From there it goes into the USA Customs which I think are $2500-$3000. Kind of like the Hamers. It's really light mahogany. When I brought it home I liked it more and more. The stock Dean pickups kick enough ass where I will keep it stock. The string through body construction gives it awesome sustain. Everybody from my band to friends say they love the sound of it. It's definitely for the heavier stuff- it doesn't have a great clean sound when you back off on the volume. But then, that's not what I bought it for. The Hamer has a great clean tone. Welcome. Hide your wallet. I came here with one, too....... A couple of those are gone, but a couple others took their place. It's baaaad. You had to show me that, didn't you! Let's see- my yearly bonus comes in July..........how much can I pick up a good clean used USA Standard for ?
