hi everyone...

i've been a "lurker" around here for quite some time and finally registered a little while back... so i guess i'm a "newbie" here.

but... last year, i wound up buying a Hamer Special K that i am just nuts about. i actually bought a brand new (bound and crowned) Sunburst model back around 78 or 79 and loved it, but went thru a divorce and had to sell it off. over the years, i sort of forgot about Hamers until i bought the Special K. since then, i've been going nuts over these guitars. i mean, they were excellent back then... but i love what i'm seeing now!

anyway, long story short... i think i'm going to get this one:

looks like a gorgeous piece of work doesn't it? should look good along side this one:

Welcome aboard! So we have two Jeff R.s now ... Many here will tell you just one was plenty 'nuff hahaha.

Stay a while, make yourself at home and enjoy the place.

Those redwoods are the only ones that will be made. Hang on to it!

A lot of us here want those Special K's.

the Special K's are the only one's that will be made as well. in fact, i've already asked about getting something custom built that was "similar" and was pretty much shot in the a$$. :D so, i think i'll hang onto it too! :D

PLEASE READ !

After I listened to your music download a pop up window appeared (drive cleaner). It said that it had detected porno history in my computer history and automatically began a download! I shut down my machine immediately.

I don't know much about these things so please look into it yourselves.

Here is the pop up redirect:

http://www.drivecleaner.com (don't click)

Here is a forum posting I found about it:

(you can click on this one)

hey pirate...

i went back and double checked everything... i did NOT get a pop up window or any sort of a porn redirect. everything worked fine for me.

could it have been something left over from another site you had been on?

i have never had a single problem with the Soundclick site.

so, just so everyone knows... i went back and double checked everything... and had NO PROBLEMS with the link that played that song.

I liked the track, the playing, and the guitar tone.

thanks! i had a lot of fun doing that one.

I tried it a 2nd time with no probelm. Weird.

Once again, nice playing and great guitars!

Yeah, like you don't have a porno history on your computer (to go with the one you have in real life :D ).

thank for the pics BCRgreg... pretty cool to see the prototype!

so... did i read somewhere that these also had a pretty meaty neck? i thought i heard that these have the "vintage carve".

if so... how meaty is it? ...similar to the newer VOS gibson series necks?

I got to roadtest one of the other prototypes (there were at least two with 'Prototype' stamped into the back of the headstock - Hamer tends to go through a couple revisions as they tweak the designs) as well as a final version through a friends' 59 Bassman - awesome is a bit of an understatement. Great guitars!

So the prototypes were made in early 2004 and the 30 pieces in 2006.

Why such a delay ?

What was the difference between the prototypes and the final version ?

Yes, I have #19 and it's an extraordinary guitar.

Another one that will never go away.

I don't know if it's the pickups (SLU SD's) or the overall design that makes it so good. (altough it didn't got much playing since I got the Talladega).

wow... very nice!

so... can you tell me about the Duncan "SLU" pickups? i never did find out what "SLU" means.

also... can you confirm the "beefy neck" ? ...i'm hoping this is true, as i love the larger neck profiles.

The neck is simular like the necks on the recent vintage carve necks on the Newport or the Studio's. Try to find another recent one with a vintage neck (I don't know what profile your Jr. has) and it should be simular. I have a Jr. with a modern neck carve and I don't like it as much as the vintage carve.

The SLU stands for Slightly Less Ultimate, Ultimates are used in the Artist Ultimate.

Those were signed by SD.

I guess they are NOS pickups from the original order from SD, but they wanted to keep the Ultimates exclusive for the Artist Ultimate (I don't know how many are made from that one - but for sure it's not Hamer's most popular model)

Slightly Less Ultimate! lol... thanks... that was really bugging me!

i think by "jr" you're talking about my Special K? if so... i would describe the carve on that one as slightly larger than a good 60's les paul shape... with just a touch of flatness... which is also like the 60's shape. it's not thin... more of a MEDIUM shape. it's really nice because the thing is... i PREFER the big necks... HOWEVER... the neck on the Special K is very very comfortable and very easy to play. i don't have a problem with it at all. in fact, i wish i could've bought more than one at the time i bought mine! but, you know how that goes!
