BruceM Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Anyone know anything about these old Acoustic bass amps from the 70's? I've got a line on one cheap, and am considering it so that MC Chris will be able to keep up on bass next time he shows up.I'd appreciate any info anyone can give me on these.

Add a BDDI and it will be even better
teleman Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 My bass player is using one in our rehearsal setup. He's had it since '77 and it never has let him down. Funny this shoudl comeup as we were talking about the amp just last week.
GusS Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 awesome. they actually get dirty when cranked, despite being SS. i have a 150 (guitar version w/ reverb n trem)
tomteriffic Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 awesome. they actually get dirty when cranked, despite being SS. i have a 150 (guitar version w/ reverb n trem)Ditto. I had a 150 with a 6x 10 cabinet that was fearsome. We even used to run my wife's electro drumkit through it. Solid, dependable stuff. The later stuff, not so much so, but the 140, 150 stuff was very good.
Rockola Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I don't claim to thoroughly know Acoustics, but they seemed to work for John Deacon.
hepkat Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 My last bass player had on that he ran through a Carlson (?) cab. More than enough for the small clubs we played in
marcnorth Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I have a 140 and it's a killer little amp. Used two 370's back in the early to middle 70's with the Cerwin Vega folded 18's and those things kicked ass. When I moved to Indy back in 89 I had to move into an apartment so I gave them to my brother. He still has both of them sitting at his house. The 140 is a great little Bass amp if you don't mind solid state. I also have a 150 thats cool too. Its just a 140 with reverb and tremolo.
tomteriffic Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 When I was a kid, a 370 cab was the perfect place to smuggle in a case of beer and hide it from your parents during "band practice" Except when the empties started to rattle when you actually fired the amp up.
HSB0531 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Bruce:That was my 1st.bass amp!Bought mine in '75.Very reliable amp, good power (with 2 efficient 15" speakers), and pretty good tone. They work best with a 4 ohm load. They are extremely easy to service. The only bad thing about them is the non-grounded power cord. But then, almost everything was that way back then.
murkat Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 built like a tank. They use to throw them off the tail of a loading truck and plug them in just to show how raod worthy they were ( and they worked) at the factory/ facility.
Bloozguy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 +1 on all the positive comments...I know a few guys who had those in the 70's and they're still cranking today.
