Stokesdead Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 NO LONGER FOR TRADE. I am keeping the thread open to see if someone can indeed clarify if these could be original pickups or not. Also so everyone can see how good pirates can be. I am not liking the dimarzio pickups.
Guest pirateflynn Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 That's a really pretty guitar, but I don't think the pickups are original.
Stokesdead Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 I may be wrong of course but I was told when I bought it that they were dimarzio HotRods < I think thats right. And that when hamer ran out of PAFs they would use these.Correct me if Im wrong guys.~Chris Stokes
Stokesdead Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 ok maybe they aren't original. I just took the backplate off to have a look see and one of the pickups has 2 conductor wire with the vintage style braided wire and they other has that grey 4-conductor that I am used to seeing with dimarzio. Well if they aren't original I'll just change 'em out and see if I like something new. I mean I love the guitar very easy to play but I just hate the pickups.
kizanski Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I am not liking the dimarzio pickups. I really don't want to change them if the have been in there for 27 years. That's no reason to get rid of a guitar that you love, even if they were the original pickups, which they aren't.There are thousands of pickups out there for you to try, so this is a golden opportunity for you.One suggestion, if I may: zebra neck (creme bobbin on the screw side) and double creme at the bridge. It is a vintage Hamer, after all, and that's the law.
Stokesdead Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 just bought a zebra bridge duncan custom custom ($40 seemed like a good deal) so looks like I will be trying out some new pickups. Probably just replace the bridge for now because I am so freakin' broke. You think it will look funny with zebra bridge and double creme neck? I do. Eventually I'll get a zebra neck pickup to complete the thing.~CS
Guest pirateflynn Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Chris,I'm with Kiz. Throw some pickups in that beauty and give it another whirl.Zebra bridge and creme neck will look cool, but not as traditional. Serial has an early Standard w/ that pickup color sceme ..... can't do much better than that!Hey, I have a Seymour Duncan 59N-J in double creme (I also have one in all black) that you can have. Send me your address and it's your's. I think it's a neck pickup. Maybe one of the guys can confirm.

Chris, do the Dimarzio pickups have any model# on the baseplates and what don't you like about them?-AustinI'l let you know if they have any markings next week when I change them out. I will take pics as well. As far as the sound well.....the bridge humbucker sounds like the bridge position on a strat to me. Thin and all top end. The neck sounds like way too much bass with a kinda jazzy tone. They are at two ends of the spectrum and both way to far for my likes.
BTMN Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Duncan 59n and Custom Custom Bridge should sound great!!! Great looking guitar. Reminds me of my old friend Amber.
bubs_42 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 In my sunburst I couldn't fit my 59 in the neck due to the legs being to long, does anyone have a solution other than shorting the legs. Bought this one off of pirateflynn, I moved the Bridge Dimarzio to the neck and a Seymour duncan JB in the Bridge and Yes that's a Double cream JB.http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/bubs_42/102_0498.jpg
Punkavenger Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Duncan 59n and Custom Custom Bridge should sound great!!! Great looking guitar. Reminds me of my old friend Amber. I agree with Gene ... That should be a great sounding combo and look just fine. I have a 59/custom (not custom custom) in my Blitz and it sounds fantastic!
