killerteddybear Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Do you know anything about this bass?I'd love to know if it's a neck-through... I borrowed a Chaparral back in the late 80's when my Yamaha was in the shop, and I was really, really impressed with it.
killerteddybear Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Cancel the last request - I just found the pictures tucked away on the right side of the ad...
cmatthes Posted May 27, 2005 Author Posted May 27, 2005 I played set-neck Chaps forever - they are great basses. I've never owned a bolt-on USA Chap, but have played them before and they are also nice. Slightly different animal, but very cool. I know nothing about the bass in this auction, but at that price, it is tough to go wrong on a USA-made bass.
serial Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 I've gone back to playing my 80s Chap bass almost exclusively. That coming from a dedicated Impact player. While the Impact is still more comfortable, the sound I get from the Chap (with OBLs no less) is the best bass sound I've ever been able to get.
ET_KenW Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Did they dip the tuners in an acid bath??????Still, for a less than HFC approved Buy it Now, a little clean-up would probably turn a good profit.
belikerick Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Hey you bass players...I have a guitar playing friend who's looking for a good, economy priced bass. I've checked out the Blue Book description for this bass and it doesn't match. It's supposed to have 2 J style pickups and a pickguard - what am I (or the Blue Book) missing? What kind of bridge is that? Thanks for any help.
MCChris Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 I've checked out the Blue Book description for this bass and it doesn't match. It's supposed to have 2 J style pickups and a pickguard - what am I (or the Blue Book) missing? What kind of bridge is that? That's the description of a Cruise, which this bass ain't. It's a Chapparal.
serial Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 The Blue Book for using with either descriptions or pricing of Hamers is worth far less than toilet paper. There has NEVER been anything in there of value as far as Hamer info or pricing. Hell, they had '80s FBs pricing out at $150-250 just a couple years ago which was the last time I looked at one. Descriptions are even worse and far more inaccurate.
cmatthes Posted May 27, 2005 Author Posted May 27, 2005 That is actually a great price. You could part it out and make a couple hundred easily. The bridge is a Hamer stamped Schaller.
belikerick Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Whoops, my mistake - I did look at the Cruise instead of the Chap. Thanks for all the info anyhow guys, I think I'll have to alert my friend to check it out!!
