Acoustic Porn (NHC)

Most of us seem to just have an acoustic sitting around to cover some *non-electirc* stuff. But a few of us have gathered some objects of desire that fall decidedly into the acoustic camp. I just took delivery of mine so I decided its the perfect time to show them off. Besides.... it was a nice sunny morning. :D

This is a hi-gloss black Martin model 000-ecfh, aka Bellezza Nera (Black Beauty.) The sound is wonderfully even and balanced. Its got Indian Rosewood side and back and some sweet sounding Italian Alpine Spruce for a top. But you can't see any of that because its covered with a finish worthy of a fine grand piano. Martin has only offered a gloss black guitar one other time- the limited edition Johnny Cash dred. She sits nice next to my trans-black Newport 12er and my all black Newport Pro.

That's purdy!

My acoustic isn't pictureworthy, but I have fun with it anyway. It's a $120 Yamaha that I picked up 22 years ago in Biloxi, MS. I recently had a compensated saddle made, along with a corian nut and a nice fret cleanup. Plays like an electric now.

One of these days I'd like to get a nice fancy one like you got. :D

Hey buzzy...is that a condensor mic I see in your sound hole? I know a guy who has a very nice acoustic which he uses an XLR jack in place of the standard 1/4" and he has his peizo (spelling sux, sorry) going through his rig and the condensor goes out into the house...sounds really awesome! Your Black Beauty looks pretty awesome too! I love the headstock inlays man!

thundernotes, Yamahas are alright man...I have 2 of them, used to have three, one being the classical pictured below but I sold it about 10 years ago. I still have a 70 model six and a 75 model twelve. I still play both of them!

Ok, for my porn I offer pics (l to r) of my 1963 Gibson flattop which I learned to play on, my 71 Yamaha Classical (sold as mentioned), and my 92 Gibson Starburst (yea that's the crosswalk at Abbey Road...I'm a photoshopper :D ). Sorry I don't have any rich quality pics like buzzy, plus there is about *cough* 28 years spanning these pics of mine...haha. (yea I know, I didn't age so gracefully...heh)

HA HA HA HA! Yes I thought of that when I posted it...couldn't come up with a nicer way of asking...how about this...."is that a condensor mic in the middle of your rosetta?" :D

Hey Thunder! Thanks. And if $120 Yamaha makes you smile, it worth a mint. A fancy one is always nice. But one that plays and sounds great is more important. In this case I was able to get both (not unlike all those Hamer moments we share)

Larry. That's half of a K&K trinity system. I'm totally sold on em. There's a three piece peizo (spellings fine) glued up under the bridgeplate and a small mic sitting in the soundhole. The plug in the base of the guitar has a stereo out that feeds into a two way pre-amp the size of a pack of smokes. I can either send a mixxed mono or two separate signals from there. The sound is the closest I've ever heard to the holy grail *amplified w/o color* and I've heard them all.

PS you didn't age half bad. And nice Photoshop work! I was thinking maybe you drove a rented VW to park and get the shot.

Haha. Slipped that in while I was typing. Well what's inside my Rosetta is even more personal than what's in my sound hole. Screw it. I guess I'm an exhibitionist after all. :D

My travel acoustic Go Guitar:

My Taylor 714 BCE with cedar top and 2 piece brazilian rosewood back:

My Taylor 355CE plays like buttah:

The Alvarez I use for gigging because it plays great and the blend of the stock piezo and the K&K triple transducer system sounds great. Plus the onboard tuner is so convenient!

The Ovation that would be my backup, but the pickup is cuttting out:

The Martin that I just sold (I'm crying over this one) to help pay for carpet in our new house:

I don't have a photo of my $100 Fender beach acoustic, but it sounds pretty dang good for a POS.

I also have a Godin acousticaster that's also a synth controller for backup and gigs where I want some synth tones.

But my go to the grave guitar, which I can't find in a photo...., is my 1980 Martin HD28 that I bought used around 1985. It's not as pretty as the inlaid or bursted ones, but it's tone surpasses all of the cosmetics.

Hey DavidE...I love the way you positioned your Hamer Studio in the pic of your travel guitar! :D Really adds to the pic! Actually that little travel guitar looks pretty cool. I played a Washburn travel guitar recently and I was amazed at the big sound that was coming out of such a small guitar.

Taylors BETTER play like buttah! I love em! I had been saving my pennies up to buy one similar to your six-string for myself but wound up using the money for my new SG...no real regrets there because I had been out of the electric guitar business for a long time and wanted to get back into it. My only regret is that I didn't shop around for a Hamer before I opted for something I knew I would be satisfied with...which I am really...I have always liked SG's.

Nice collection you have there bro!

I'm a sucker for Tobacco SunBurst. Someday I'm getting a Korina and spruce duotone in this color scheme.

Hey David,

I shudda known you'd have a harem. Nice Taylors. I hope to cover my Taylor GAS with a future Breedlove. Right now I've been digging in with a pick and the Martin has been giving back what I need. But I hope to begin exploring some fingerwork and a C25 might just fit the bill. Sorry to hear about *the carpet* but it looks like you have some left to keep you company.

Nice quilted wood showcase, guys.

Hey Phoenix! Nice 028. I've been mulling a smaller Martin to sit ontop of the mix. What year? That Gibson flat top looks like a keeper too.

Buzzy. Look at the Breedlove OM-R and OM-M, rosewood and mohogany respectively. Nice price. Pre-war scalloped top. I have an OM-R I just bought to satisfy my lust for the EC model Martin. The Martins were all over the scale in sound quality and the ticket was too steep to trust ordering over the Net.
