Guest Buck Dharma Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 What did you all think about Floyd? Gilmore showed all why he is the best is what I think. He friggin rocks and even his voice was right on! That made my day and if I had the money I would have been there. Talk amongst yourselves!
Jorge Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 I could not see it, d@mn!!! Anyone have a link to that video?
tafkathundernotes Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 I took my son to Hooters, cleaned the studio, and went for ice cream. I guess I'll have to catch them next time.
md2020 Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 I missed it. Did Gilmour rock because of, in spite of, or without... EMGs?
Guest Buck Dharma Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 57 Strat reissue, Black with black pickguard and maple slab neck. NO EMG's. He played like he was twenty. Time> Money>Wish you were here> Comfortably Numb. They sounded GREAT. I smell a world tour reunion, LA NY and London, I'm saving now cause I'm goin wherever it is.
Jorge Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 playing RIGHT NOW.http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now
guitarzandstuff Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 I don't know... that Strat had a filled Kahler route. It could've been a real one...And yes man, Pink Floyd was the highlight of the day!!!
kurtsstuff Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 However cool the floyd may be...I just never really got all that jazzed about them??...to each his own I guess??
Guest Buck Dharma Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 To me Gillmore invented tone. I would rather hear him do a few tasty notes than anyone do twenty fast fancy notes. Thats just my preference. It's all cool just personal preference. His riffs fit in the song and are melodic always with great bends. I think the spacing makes as much difference as the notes and he is a master at that.
Guest teefus2 Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 gilmour's soloing was really great. i thought the band kind of started off a little light (money?). i noticed the filled in kahler route too. who was the old guy playing the red strat behind gilmour?
Buzzy Fretts Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Looks like Pete Townsend is rocking down in London at the moment...Edited to add:S'ok. Thanks for the new link Buck! I'm just finishing up the set as I type. Great stuff of course. +1 on catching any NYC shows. They've always been on my very-short-list of must-sees.
MARKVECTOR82 Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Had to work heard them on the radio and got chills! Got home and saw it and hell had truly frozen over!! Just Bloody great! Gilmors tone amazing!
Moose Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Is it just me, or has Roger Waters gone completely over to the Warren Zevon school of singing?Other than Waters, they were all great. Frankly, I think he's a little nuts and getting more disconnected from reality after having seen the outtakes from the DVD on making Dark Side. Considering he fired Rick Wright while the Wall was being made, and is endlessly pissed at Gilmore for keeping the name, I'd be afraid a tour would melt down if they tried it. Either that, or it'd end up 2/3 songs off the wall to keep Waters happy and, frankly, that would suck. Roger just can't sing like Gilmore and Wright. The unbelievably tasty guitar and keys has always been why Floyd is so different and so good.Still, it would be great to see them in the original lineup. If they could survive long enough to tighten up a full show and tour, it would be the event that made U2s 10 second sellouts pale.
davidd Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 They were great! Damn VH1 cut away during "Comfortably Numb" and never came back to them. I couldn't believe they did that. I was so angry I wanted to smash all the windows with a guitar.
Stike Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Yep, Dave's leads are as tatsty as a plate of sticky ribs. I got to see Floyd live in the late 80's. Great show but then again the port a johns were visablly breathing too so................
Guest Buck Dharma Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Hey I think I was at that show with the breathing port a johns too! Was it at JFK in Philly? The effects used to be friggin amazing then! HA LOL!
