What is the standard nut material/color on a Newport?

As the title asks, what is the standard nut from the factory on a Newport Pro. Color and material?

It should be a black lubricat nut. Made from a special sauce cooked from Hamers own recepie.

I believe they switched over at some point in 2005. I'll check from home later on tonight if nobody gets to this one beforehand.

A bass I ordered in fall of '04 was completed in January, '05 and had the black nut. The M3 I ordered in mid-'05 arrived in October with the bone nut.

Are the nuts bone or ivory? Their web site lists ivory.

My 2004 Newport has a stock bone nut. I contacted Hamer about my 2007 custom ordered Newport, and it has an ivory nut. Beautiful material.

I thought the change from synthetic to bone took place in 2002?

I don't think it was that early. I have synthetic (black) on a custom order from 2001, one from 2003 and one from 2004/05. I didn't really notice the switch until '05, but it may have been a phase in (??).

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've seen a black nut on a post 2001 Newport. Perhaps Jol saw the Newport as being particularly vintage and thus adopted bone for the model a little earlier?

Don't know if this Y2K is stock:

I can't say that I've seen a black synthetic nut paired with the newer truss rod cover design.* Any idea when the Gibson-like cover made its debut?

edit:

* on a Newport.

My '04 serialed B-4 (received in 1/05) had the newer TRC and the black synthetic nut.

Seems reasonably common on the first Superpros, though I still can't find that combo on a Newport. I wonder if the decal was dropped for the inlaid logo at the same time as the change of truss-rod cover.

I could be wrong, but the nut doesn't look original. It overhangs the side of the neck, which i don't recall ever seeing on a factory nut.

Edit to add - Original or not, it looks (and likely sounds) better than that black synthetic stuff... :D

There is no need to kill more elephants. Poachers already do that. When the poachers are caught (and executed) the ivory is confiscated by some of the African governments and sold legally at a price that that devalues the illegal ivory trade.

I think you're right on the Y2K. Having had a bit more of a look around, I'd say that the change took place at some point in 2002. I did a web archive search and came up with the following two guitars from 2002:

Edit:

And as Chris has pointed out, some models retained the black nut until at least 2005:

I think the lubritrak nut came in white also. My Daytona and T51 both have white nuts.
