specialk Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Looking through the new Hamer catalog, the only flat-top guitars they make these days are Standards and Vectors. Is this right? I hope those early-mid 90s Specials stay in my price range then,

I hope those early-mid 90s Specials stay in my price range then, Specials are great deals. Lately, they've been selling for crazy cheap. Where else you gonna get that kind quality for a couple bills below the $1000 mark. I can't think of anything.... HAMER rules!
bubs_42 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Don't for the Jr. If you ask nicely they would probly do a flat top Studio for ya or a flamed Jr.

As for the Jr, after seeing pics of Camstone's, I would never be happy with anything less, . But I'll probably stick with Specials.

I also remeber a flamedtop Trans Orange Jr. floating about that was cool as well.
BTMN Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Mid '90s Special are that. Special that is. I really dig the P90 version in TV Yellow I have but this sweetie I got off Craigslist in January is WONDERFUL!!! Find ya one.
veatch Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 A flat top Studio would be an idea. Thanks! I think (*think*) they'll still do a custom order on the flat top Studio... I've been thinking something like this for a CO. Something like this would be cool:
specialk Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 That is a very special Special, Gene. Congrats on that killer score!

JohnnyB Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 In spite of the construction, scale, and pickup differences, the G&L ASAT Special delivers a similar tone range and has a quick and immediate attack and delivery. Used to be able to pick these up for $500 or less all day long. I got one in 1998 with upscale MOTO pick guard for under $400. I wish I had it back. I guess eventually word does get around. I just checked eBay and the only used USA-made ASAT Special had a BIN of $1,159. There are lots of the MIK Tribute series (still good guitars, but not the same) at about the price that the USA ones used to go for.I like both the Hamer Special and the G&L ASAT Special. Great classic rock machines whose big single coil PUs have just the right output to overdrive a master-less amp.
