Hamerhack Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Cool! Classic Rock, the universal language! It's fun to watch stuff on YouTube of people around the world singing the classic tunes.Who knows if they even have any idea what the lyrics are about, but they try and mimic them the best they can! (For that matter, who knows what Yes songs are about, but I sing 'em the best I can.)
Jason01 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 They talk about how a professional curriculum takes away from the heart and soul of rock but hows that any different from GIT or berkley?
zorrow Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Russians rock too! There were actually a couple of Russian bands who rocked the Soviet Union back in the eighties. My cousins are half-Russian (my uncle married a hot Russian girl, who now is no longer hot, but she's still cool as hell ), so I got into Russian metal back then and still have a couple of albums around from those times. First of all it was Aria (pronounced "Ariya"), considered the Russian Iron Maiden. They still are quite big there, and IMHO they sound great. They sing in Russian though, so that's why they have always remained local to Russia. But if you can overcome the fact you won't understand a shit from what they're saying, you might still like them. Check them out here (song from their third album, released in 1987): .There also was Kruiz. They started as a thrash metal trio back in the 80's, but they moved into hard rock from their 2nd album on. The guitar player, Valeri Gaina, had great chops for the time. This video of them is from 1986. It's live. The guy starts by some guitar masturbation, before breaking into a hardrocker, sung in Russian: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lH1JLpK4dI. You might like that one too. So, I guess Russians do have after all some tradition in rock, don't they?
Siaip Ciuvas Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Ionel - there was a band that even made it to MTV those days, name Gorky Park and Kramer had their signature model. And yeah, russians have absolutely jawdropping shredders. here is gorky park for you:

Thanks!
