Roli Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 No affiliation with this shop; just ran across http://www.lupos-rockshop.de/dt/lupo2.html They are asking Euro 1.990,-
atquinn Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 They are asking Euro 1.990,- Yeah, it looks good, but not that good! -Austin
zenmindbeginner Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 it's a Frankenstein job... http://www.lupos-rockshop.de/dt/lupo2.html They are asking Euro 1.990,- That neck is from a 1985 Scepter, and the body is from a Scarab I. Definitely unique, but I wouldn't pay more than $700 for it. It must be hard to get a Hamer in Europe, I feel their pain.

But this one has a Floyd, which in my book makes a much more interesting guitar. And Scarabs with Floyds don't grow on trees. Times are tough, but for such a cool guitar they should be able to get a bit over a 1000 $, at least.
cmatthes Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 That neck is from a 1985 Scepter, and the body is from a Scarab I. What makes you think that it wasn't custom ordered that way? I've only seen the one pic posted here, but It wouldn't make much sense to destroy a Scepter and then go through all the trouble to graft the neck onto a Scarab body. That would likely cost far more than the guitar was worth.I'm just wondering, because in the mid-80s, it was very easy to get custom orders with different necks, headstocks, etc. done, so a mod like that wouldn't make sense to me.

It's funny, I broke the neck on my Hamer Scarab (Red) back in 1986 and was given a Scepter (Red and Black) on loan from the store that I bought it for about half of the period of the repair (which took 3 and a half months). I loved that Scepter, but the Scarab had a real sexy shape. My Frankenstein scenario might have been to salvage two broken guitars by combining them, but it does however seem implausible to break up a Scepter considering they made so few of them. I think that you are right about it being a custom job for an adventurous buyer.
mc2 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Saw a pic...It's got something wrong with the neck from the nut to almost the second fret, close to the fingerboard...like a mild crack or at least a stress crack in the finish there from maybe a wack to the headstock. Too bad.

Too bad.The serial numbers seem wierd too... further evidence that it was a custom one off just like the OP states. I've whacked the headstock of my Scarab so many times it ain't funny and have never incurred a stress crack in the finish, it could be humidity or temperature related.
