m chops Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Browned Eyed Girl and Margarittaville are songs that I really don't care to listen to. But they sure got the crowd going. Playing those songs were worth it! A Korina Jr. in action ( with a Newport 12 behind me): The band: The crowd:
silentman Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hell, we even played Brown Eyed Girl at ceeb's jam. That shows ya how cool WE are.
Nathan Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Why is it that only about 2% of lead guitarists can play that intro without farking it up somehow?
m chops Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 Why is it that only about 2% of lead guitarists can play that intro without farking it up somehow?Well, I'm in the 98% for now. It will probably take me another couple of months to get it under my fingers. Its tough to play accurately, at least for me. But then I don't claim to be a lead guitarist.
Jack C Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Why is it that only about 2% of lead guitarists can play that intro without farking it up somehow?Heh. That's timely. I suggested this song to my band for the very reasons Ben mentioned - everyone knows it; chicks love it... I also figured it would be simple to learn and play. Well, I can't help but butcher that simple little opening lick. My fingers just don't want to move that way for some reason. It's starting to piss me off.
serial Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 The one that bugs me is the intro chords to "What I Like About You". 98% of all cover bands play that song and maybe 2% get that correct. I never played that song before (I was in one of the two percent in bands that never played the song) one of the HFC jams. DavidE (who DOES know how to play that and nearly every other song written in the past 75 years) and quickly attempted to show me the chords before we jumped off into that tune. After that I learned how to play it the right way. Unfortunately, for all of my attempts to get guitarists in 2 out of my last 3 bands to play it close to correctly, they decided "in the ballpark" was good enough. There's a long walk from the field to the ticket gate.
atquinn Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hell, we even played Brown Eyed Girl at ceeb's jam. That shows ya how cool WE are. Word. Well, actually I wasn't involved in that performance, but I still think I'm cool. Anyway, I think BEG is a bit deceptive, because it's the song any guitarist naturally starts playing about 10 minutes after they learn about double-stops and then most of them stop learning it at the, "Hey, that sounds like brown-eyed girl!" moment. At least that's the way it was for me. The actual guitar part is interesting and varied throughout the entire song, but all I can do is hack up the intro. -Austin
Stike Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I got your back, Stike!Brown Eyed Girl SUCKS! No need Kiz, I pretty much agree with all pro BEG comments made, I just don't want to play in a band that has to play BEG or other "sorority screamers". I'm not looking to make a living playing or "work" every weekend, just play music I like with people I like and so far that's what I get to do, not as often as I'd like but I really like it when I do. I'm pretty fortunate that my area has a lot of like minded folks and a few venues that will have us too .
