proxmax Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 which original pups you like best in calis?SD parallel axis, OBLs or others?
atquinn Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 PATB1 for the bridge. Don't like any of the neck single coils that come stock, greatly prefer a Dimarzio Chopper.-Austin
proxmax Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 PATB1 for the bridge. veatch Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Paging Mr. Scary... Fer me: I loved the OBLs in the black Elite i had, especially the bridge. The neck i ended up replacing. Definitely like the OBLs better than the EMGs, but the EMGs have their advantages. Never had the SDs in one. Opinions vary, though, so trust yer own ears.
proxmax Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Opinions vary, though, so trust yer own ears. hi veatch, sure, i do just wanted to hear you opinions. i like the OBL, but i have to boost it to get a similar result than with my haeussel tozz xl. it's 15,3 kOhm versus 19 kOhm. cheers klaus
atquinn Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I've only had Duncan's in the necks of the 4 (or so?) Calis I've had, PATB STK's and SSL something-or-others. I've tried Pro-Tracks, Cool Rails, Choppers, some sort of Lawrence Rail that I believe was close specs-wise to the OBL's, and maybe other stuff, but only liked the Pro-Track and the Chopper. Not suprising since I think single coils sound like crap in the neck position once you get up over 22 frets. -Austin
Jeff R Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Definitely the Parallel Axis sets for my hands and ears.
Dasein Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I have a JB in the neck position and a trembucker in the bridge.
proxmax Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Definitely the Parallel Axis sets for my hands and ears.hey jeff, cool band - like it!klaus
analogsystem Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Not stock, but I am digging the PATB-2 I dropped in the bridge of My Cali Elite. Its very warm but with massive output and good harmonic content.I thought the OBL-450 in the neck was pretty good sounding, but a little sterile. I took it out and put in a Harmonic Design strat sized p90 that I had laying around. Sounds great and has enough output to balance correctly with the PATB-2
Devin Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Don't like any of the neck single coils that come stock, greatly prefer a Dimarzio Chopper.-Austin+1 even though I'm using EMG's in mine now when it was passive I had a Chopper in the neck slot and a Duncan Distortion in the bridge....badass combo!!My Cali came stock with some weird generic Dimarzio's (Dimarzio Slammer I believe).
Bennyboy-UK Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Not stock, but I am digging the PATB-2 I dropped in the bridge of My Cali Elite. Its very warm but with massive output and good harmonic content.I did the same to my elite. That was because when I bought it it was missing a bridge pickup entirely. Swapped the slammer sc for the parallel axis stack. Job done!B
proxmax Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 in my setneck cali works now a PATB-2 and i like it.sure, austin was right, with the PATB-1 you could geta similar sound just by adjusting the amp, but that's it:the sound is similar to my other guitars, so no big pot turning.the PATB-2 has a nice pick clicking and is great for heavy.way not that much compressed as i read at HC.how near you guys have it at the strings?anyone compared it to SD SH6 distortion?-klaus
diablo175 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Definitely the Parallel Axis sets for my hands and ears. +1! I've owned only two stock Cali Elites, one had OBL's and the other SD Parallel Axis. Gotta say the SD's, to my ear, are far superior. Much more punchy with clearer highs and less sludge. Haven't worked up the cash or the nerve to mod a perfectly good USA Cali- though I do have a MIK Cali that has some awesome after-market SD's and an OFR...
proxmax Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 it also depends to the amp you use. with my diezel it sounds exactly like i want it for classic 80ies metal. i don't use any pedals - no need! the OBLs are definatly great pups but different. they are clearer and separate the single stringtones better. like the haeussels. depends what you want. best you have them all.
proxmax Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 EMG!can you post a picture, where the battery position is to see?
