cynic Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 For instance, would standard P90's drop into the mini-hum routing on a Hamer Eclipse with no modification?
Bloozguy Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 For instance, would standard P90's drop into the mini-hum routing on a Hamer Eclipse with no modification? I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Take a look at a Les Paul Deluxe with mini humbuckers. The pickup ring brings the mini up to P90 size. I think BadgerDave may have made that conversion at one time and the mounting plate screw holes are still visible after you rout for the P90. Feel free to chime in here Dave so we don't have to rely on my old brain cells
DaveH Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 This is correct...they are NOT a drop-in replacement.
atquinn Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Yup. Minihumbuckers are drop-in replacements for soapbar P90's but the reverse is not always true and definitely not in the case of the Eclipse.-Austin
hamerican gigolo Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Do Firebird p.u.'s have the same dimensions as mini's? In other words could you use the same mounting rings as in a Les Paul Deluxe, for example?

gorch Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 P90s if not soapbars are direct replacements for Humbuckers. Mini Humbuckers are somewhat smaller, maybe of soapbar size as suggested. Then there are dogear soapbars...
Bloozguy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 This might clarify a few things...or not This is a dimensionally correct (according to the Seymour Duncan website) drawing of a full size humbucker, a mini humbucker, and a soapbar style P90
