Anyway, Dad's feeling much better and looking pretty good today. Surgery has been rescheduled to tomorrow at 2.

STM

STAY AT THE HOSPITAL! They will let you stay in the room if you push them. We did that with my Dad. Document everything. Names and timelines. Godspeed.

What Jim said, Marty. Letting a guy in that kind of condition sign himself out AMA and then treating him that way is unconscionable. But, no sense both of us having our knickers in a twist. Keep a good eye on him and the staff, and best thoughts and prayers from here.

Two hour drive huh? St. Louis? What hospital? I got friends in that business there.

STM - your Dad's very fortunate to have you there to look out for his interests when he can't. Especially dealing with a healthcare system that often makes no sense. I hope my sons are around to help me out if/when I get to the point where I really need it!

Hang in there - our prayers and best wishes are sent your way!

Hey Marty,

I've got an office full of believers here all praying for God to guide the hands of the medical team that's working on your father and for a speedy recovery!

Surgery lasted from 2 to 10 pm; the tumor was as large as a basketball; the surgeons removed all of the tumor, most of his colon, all of his bladder, part of his small intestine, and they got his appendix while they were in there. He came through it all very well. I saw him yesterday morning in ICU and he was responsive and alert when he was awake. He should be out of ICU on Monday.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers. He couldn't have done this well without God's hands upon him.

btw, tomterrific, you were about about the distance, but we were at Springfield instead of St. Louis. I could see Lincoln's tomb from the ICU waiting room on the 7th floor.

Glad things look good so far. Remember to remain vigilant with the hospital staff as your father recovers. Ask questions. Force them to do things that need to get done. Hang in there.

Ab-so-freekin-lutely!

My Sister runs the Recovery Room at a facility in Fort Pierce, FL. Same advice from her as well. She followed my Dad through all his hospitalizations. Almost lost him a couple times from staff inattention and she is WELL known in the hospital.

Edited to add: She can be a mean sonofabeyotch!

Just an update . . . he "turned the corner" yesterday and is doing remarkably well. All tubes have been removed from his nose and he started eating yesterday. The improvement in his physical strength and frame of mind has been nothing short of stunning. He should be going home by mid-week, unless something unexpected comes up. Thanks for all the prayers and support. I truly appreciate you all.
