Brooks Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 listening to led zep on my ipod this morning, heard something i've never noticed before; on "for your life" (from the presence album) after the lyric "in the palace of the crystal (something unintelligible) your nose(?)"theres a big snorting sound, like someone snoring (or doing a line of coke)!!i rewound it 3 times, 1st time i thought there was a mad dog following me down the road, ha!another hidden event can be heard on "sweet home alabama",after he sings "heard mr young sing about ya";you can barely make out a snip from neil youngs "southern man".have y'all discovered any hidden events like these while listening to headphones?
Wrecks Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Jane's Addiction, Up The Beach, the first cut on Nothings Shocking, you can hear Periferal screaming in one of the opening crashes; listen to it on headphones, and when the scream echos, it pans from side to side. Always sends shivers up my spine.Good post, Brooks. I always dug listening to the guitar change-offs during the joined leads on Thin Lizzy songs and the first 3 Def Leppard albums...the rhythm guitar playing, while the other guy solos, is always quirkier then first thought, when you listen to it on headphones.Same can be said for Van Halen's rhythms during solos; the stuff he plays to back himself up in the studio can be bizarre, almost like an inside joke. EVH is a way better rhythm guitarist than people realize.
Turdus Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 The Beatles: Paperback Writer. Right before the last set of vocals, you can faintly hear somebody clear their throat, as well as sneak in a practice vocal.I always thought the snort in For Your Life was supposed to be there, LOL.
Brooks Posted August 26, 2005 Author Posted August 26, 2005 thought of a few more; on sabs "sabotage" album after the last song "the writ",you can hear a faint acoustic piano and voice singing a tune;"blow on a jug, blow on a jug, everybody c'mon and blow on a jug"...i 1st noticed this as a kid on the vinyl version, its easier to hear on the remastered box set.on volume four's "snowblind" after the 1st verse you can hear ozzy whisper "cocaine".on sabbath bloody sabbath's "killing yourself to live" you can hear ozzy whisper"smoke it"......"get high!"....i also love on zep's "physical graffitti" all the talking and noise they left on between tunes; "are we rolling jimmy?", "wait til this airplane passes", "no, leave it!"......"cough"
Brooks Posted August 26, 2005 Author Posted August 26, 2005 I always thought the snort in For Your Life was supposed to be there, LOL. i'm sure it is, i just never heard it until this morning, and i've had that album since high school.
silentman Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Queensryche has lots of extra listening enjoyment particularly on the Promised Land CD.The new Dream Theater 'Octavarium" has lots of nuggets in the last track.
darc Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Roger Waters is the master when it comes to little sound effects as musical/ production nuances. Check out The Final Cut and Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking.Sabotage and Vol. 4 - excellent taste! But I never considered any of that stuff "hidden" per se.
Brooks Posted August 26, 2005 Author Posted August 26, 2005 Sabotage and Vol. 4 - excellent taste! But I never considered any of that stuff "hidden" per se. well, subtle if not hidden, not as loud as the rest of the vocals. whatever.
anotherfreak2 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 this is a really great thread, so much time listening to guitars, I miss some of the creativity is the recording!thanks, I'll have to go spin some classic tunes today!
Guest slim Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 This one is pretty well known (at least to us Aerosmith fans). On Rocks, during the intro to Nobody's Fault, you can hear someone open a squeaky door to the studio. Pretty cool.
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Lots of Beatles stuff here. Excellent............thanks!
wil50n Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 Listening to music on headphones really is the way to go sometimes, you can pick up on different aspects of the music. F'rinstance, ever noticed the alternating octave bass line in Kashmir ? Here's a list of SOME of the extranous noises and other stuff in Zeppelin songs - there are other 'hidden' sounds that I've found.http://www.buckeye-web.com/ifmtl1.html#1.4Have fun !!!
Turdus Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 On Dancin' Days, it also appears that there is a tape wobble right when the song begins. Check it out if you have it.
serial Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Slim:You beat me to that. The door slams too. Very cool and always worth a second (or third) replay.I dig headphones.
