BadgerDave Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 The former owner of this guitar is interested ing re-acquiring it. Through a mutual fiend, I've given him my opinion that the value is absolutely no more than $3,000 and that's very generous to the seller. Can any of you make a case for a higher value? The red finish on the top is factory original.Link to Ebay auction
cynic Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Did Gibson often use screws to repair headstock breaks? I'd say $3000 is at the very high end of any sentimental offer I'd consider, and is a more than generous price.
BadgerDave Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 The ebay seller is mistaken about the repair. It was done by a very competent Madison, WI repairman (and celebrated music store owner) named Ray Ketner. My guess is that the screws were used to brace the area while the glue cured and never removed. I'd bet this was an "I need the guitar ready for Friday's gig" request.
serial Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 If that. In this economy, I think $2k would be very optimistic.
svl Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Repaired break aside, it's not even all original.Serial is right, I don't think he'd even get the $2k for it from anyone other than the original owner...
Jeff R Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 What Greg said, except I'd knock $400 off that just in case there's funny business on the repair or elsewhere.
BCR Greg Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 If that. In this economy, I think $2k would be very optimistic. The color helps. If it were black....
