tusntuk2 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hello Hamer Fan Club, it's been years since I've been active here, but I'm glad to see you are still around! I am currently trying to assess interest in a '91 Sunburst, bound and crowned, in a quilted Salmon Blush, with OHSC. The guitar has the thin neck, and playing speed and comfort have been promoted to ridiculous with a PLEK job by Joe Glaser in Nashville. Like many of you I simply have too many to play...and of course I want something new! Thanks for your considerate help and free advice. I thought I'd go here first before eBay, where I have been involved for 13 years as tusntuk2. Keep playin' y'all!
psc3251 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hi tusntuk2 I'd seriously bite your hand off for this.......I have a 91 & 92, both with skinny necks, bound & crowned...I luv 'em!! I saw a salmon blush quilt on a German shop internet add (had gold hardware)...but it was gone by the time I had enough money to 'pull the trigger'! BUT I've just paid my tax bill- and I have business equipment costs to front...... So if it's around in a month or two- I'll bite- just couldn't right now! Sorry How much btw?? Cheers Dave
gwayne Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Salmon Blush seems to be a favorite around here. Pics will get things started.
tusntuk2 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Thanks for the kind replies. I've been trying to learn how to get a picture up in here, so thanks for your patience. I will offer a link to a web album soon, but first I'll try the local administrator.
cmatthes Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 It's so simple, even I can do it:http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29582

I've been wondering for a while what the name is for the finish...somehow 'transluscent red on quilt' doesn't quite capture the vibe as well as "Salmon Blush" Someone should start a Salmon Blush appreciation thread....
tusntuk2 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Many pardons to all due to my newness in this forum and my lack of knowledge of how to use it easily. I am not intentionally hiding info, I'm just not realizing how to do what I need done to communicate properly. Here are some additional details on this instrument. I answered an inquiry thinking my reply was public, but learned it was indeed a private message, so parts of the message are repeated here for convenience. To be fair, I'll give some details - as mentioned this guitar was put on a PLEK machine by Joe Glaser in Nashville to enhance playability. The frets were reground @ .0045 from .0048 (factory) and the job was done well. The action is extremely low and fast, with no dead spots and no buzzing. Please check out the PLEK in case you don't know about it. Call Joe, he's great to talk to. The second issue diverting from true stock was the rewiring of the pickups. I got the original pickups with the guitar and I rewired them myself, I have years of music store and private experience (I'm 60). So everything about the guitar is original, but some folks fuss about these things, you know? The guitar is in very good shape over all, minor age and wear is pictured in the album, including typical pitting of the gold hardware (not by me!) and other tiny marks, none of which affect the guitar. I have not gigged the guitar in the 8 years I have owned it. In short the guitar plays and sounds awesome, and it outplays me. Ever been intimidated by a guitar? It's a trip! My first hope is to sell the guitar to someone who really appreciates Hamers, because it's an icon made in the 'glory days' and it's worth it. I also own a '93 Special FM, my favorite, and a '95 Duotone, amazing, as well as my new Korina Artist (Lollar P-90's!), so I do appreciate Hamers. They are all better than 3 Brubakers I own, but no one is buying expensive boutique guitars right now, and I have med bills, so...my regrets, your opportunity. I will be asking $1,000 in eBay, but I will sell for $900 in the Hamer Fan Club because you care. Shipping will probably be $50-$60, something like that, whatever. The guitar has the good wood case and I pack well, learned from 12 years experience in eBay. As for trades, well I keep thinking I'd like another Daytona (had 2) but this is a plea for cash for my med bill, so the wife would probably kill me if I traded! Hope this helps. Be sure to check out the link to the photo album at Picasa, and please help me to conduct any business privately with messages, etc. I'll be happy to talk on the phone or answer email, send more pics or whatever. Thanks again for the interest and your consideration!
crunchee Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Could you post a picture of the back as well? That will help as far as figuring out the color/shade. I once had a Salmon Blush Sunburst Archtop (a '91, I think) as well as one in what I call 'Ice Tea Burst'. Great guitars! Salmon Blush reminds me a lot of the color of those old-fashioned candy Peanut patties, AKA 'Peanut Patty Pink'.
tusntuk2 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Here's a picture of the back, the reflection is the grass on the ground. Note the straight even grain, although the resolution is poor and the grain is really tight and quite pretty in person. The picture of the bottom end of the guitar shows the single slab of mahogany construction, to my eye there are no joints in this piece. The color was called Salmon Blush by a local vintage guitar dealer originally from Rockford, Ill, I had no reason to doubt him. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking!
crunchee Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Maybe it's just me and/or my monitor, but the more I look at the photos (edited to add, the web album photos too), the more this guitar is looking like Vintage Orange. The closest photo I think that the color comes to Salmon Blush is the photo of the end strap button and the sides of the mahogany body, but even that looks more like Vintage Orange. Maybe indoor photos will show a different shade. Still, a cool color and a cool guitar! Also edited to add: it looks like the tuners are the full sized ones and not the minis, but this has a thin profile neck?
carfish7 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Speaking from experience, Salmon Blush is really tough to photograph, or should I say it is easy to get a pic that doesn't properly represent the true color. Here's mine - and it didn't look quite like it is shown here in person, but is, in fact Salmon Blush. The flash seems to bring out the pinky/berry angle a bit better than heavy sun, but I am no photographer. Could be Vintage Orange. Either way, it is an amazing deal....... Z
crunchee Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Great photos, Z! You're right, it's a tough color to photograph! I notice in your photos that even with the non-flash photo there is a hint of Salmon Pink. One thing that your photos/guitar reminded me of...the Salmon Blush Sunburst Custom I had years ago also had black knobs, I think those were standard for that color...but with gold hardware, I dunno...

Z I see what you mean, my guitar could easily be the Vintage Orange, as suggested. Whatever you might call it, it's a gem. Your Flamed maple is awesome! yes, full size tuners, tuners and bridge are likely Schaller, I seem to remember a stamp on this one (bridge) or my Special that said "Made in Germany". Yes, it has the thin neck like the '60's Gibson - what did Gibson call it? - fast taper or speed taper, something like that. Gold plated hardware, although it's "aged" with some pitting. Hardly a mark, otherwise.
