Turdus Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Can a photo flame body be sanded down, and refinished? Curious if it is a veneer, or a piece of film.
cmatthes Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 The Jpns Fender stuff is a translucent film that is "wrapped" over the body. It is not wood.Same thing with the necks. Not sure how easily it comes off, but I've seen some of those bodies go for decent $$ on eBay.
Bennyboy-UK Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Yeah, they make pretty looking guitars - I'd hazzard a guess that a refin would be practically impossible...correct me chaps
velorush Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Anyone remember the early 90's Ibanez guitars with "Gravure" finishes? Looked cool and "gravure" sounded exotic... 'til I looked it up in the dictionary: Gravure - an advanced, high-tech printing process. I'm sure anything that would remove the finish would first remove the film / print / image.
Steve Haynie Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Look closely and you can see that the wood grain pattern is printed. That will be wiped out if you sand down to it.
murkat Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Aaah, the ole Hamburglar on the strat necks......http://www.stratoblogster.com/2007/02/foto...hamburglar.html

My vote would be that its impossible to sand it down and refinish it. They look cool though.
