My Wife is a nurse, she's going to a Oncology conference. I'm going with. We will be there this next Thursday through Sunday. Anything I NEED to see? How far is Warmoth? Soldano? I've heard of some Underground shops... I know of the fish pier. Anybody know any coll places to go? To take my Wife for a nice romantic supper? Oh and we're staying at the "W" downtown. I'll have Friday and Saturday from 8:00am to 5:00 pm to explore...

The Seafair Hydroplane races are next weekend over on Lake Washington at and around Seward Park. The Blue Angels always fly a demonstration.

Boeing Museum of Flight at Boeing field, just south of downtown is really interesting if you are a plane nut.

Experience Music Project museum is at Seattle Center, really close to the Space Needle. There's a rotating restaurant on top of the Space Needle. If you like pub food and a goofy atmosphere, try the Five Points Cafe just south of Seattle Center. In the men's can there's a urinal with a periscope view of the Space Needle. Many ladies have lobbed their bra onto the five point trophy mounted up high. The food is great.

Go jump on a ferry from the Coleman Dock. Walk on is real cheap and forth and back across Puget Sound is really scenic and refreshing. You can also take the Water Taxi over to Alki Point which is a big time recreation strip. There's a really good restaurant near the Alki landing called "Salty's".

There is an old section of Seattle which dates back to way back when. The City of Seattle apparently had a great fire, and this big hill was all washed downhill over the mess. They called it the "Denny Regrade". Old Seattle is definitely underground and a bit spooky.

Near Pioneer Square has Emerald City Guitars. Jay Boone is a really nice guy and his inventory is really unique.

Bass Northwest is also nearby. I have known one of the owners (Evan Sheeley) for about 40 years. Their inventory is high end. I don't know much about bass, other than as a guitar tweedler I am useless at it.

There is also "Post Alley", which is a bit of a shrine for the Seattle music scene.

Charter a dinner sail with the wife.

Warmoth is in Puyallup. Pesocaster works there. Puyallup is 36 miles dead South of Seattle.

If you get involved in the hydro races, be prepared for a traffic geschmozzle from hell.

The weather this time of year is the best we get, so I think you picked a good time to visit.

I'm about an hour South, so I don't know downtown Seattle at all (all that darned traffic keeps me away). Taking a ferry across is a fun Seattley thing to do. Anthonys is a nice local chain (4 or 5 restaurants?) for seafood, you could ride the ferry across, and have dinner at Anthonys in Bremerton?, it's very near the ferry dock in Bremerton, you get nice mtn views on both sides. There's lots of good restaurants around, I'm sure some of the other guys could suggest better, - I know Tacoma quite a bit better than Seattle.

What are you into, in general, other than guitars?

I take it your wife will be at the conference Fri-Sat from 8-5? I don't work and I drop my wife at work, which is about half way to downtown for me. PM me if you'd like me to pick you up and I could take you exploring. There are lots of things available to do including Experience Music Project, hit the funky music stores with cool vintage gear, Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, which is very nice, the Boeing Museum of Flight, which I've never been to and would welcome an excuse to go, the Underground Tour of Pioneer Square, which is pretty fascinating. Read the history here.

Soldano Custom Amps and THD Amplification are only about 1.5 miles from each other but I don't know how amenable they are to visitors and tours. Maybe. I can check into it if I remember.

Seattle is home to several craft breweries and their alehouses, including Pyramid, Hale's Ales, Big Time Brewery, Redhook, and others.

Seattle is also home to several funky and vintage guitar stores including Emerald City Guitars, Guitarville (since 1958), The Trading Musician, and Tommy's Guitar Shop up in Everett. Tommy used to be the manager at Guitarville and also played at my wedding.

BTW, a driving tour would be fun. I drive a Lincoln Town Car, which is a very comfortable ride, and I know my way around pretty well.

Its a little pricey, I would definately stop by the Metropolitan Grill on Second Avenue:

Metropolitan Grill Seattle, WA

I did a lot of environmental consulting work a few years back in Tukwila and at SeaTac Airport, and found out about this place from one of my clients and from the King County env regulator I was working with...This place is a home run...The Metropolitan grill has to be one of the top five steakhouses I have been to...On par with Peter Luger's in Brooklyn or Pace's Steak House on Long Island...

Must haves: Dungeoness Crab Claw Cocktail for an appetizer and the peppercorn encrusted steak..

Must have had at 15 to 20 dinners there with clients or with my subs...not once have I had a bad meal there..

Elliott's Oyster house at Pier 56 was excellent as well...so was Ivar's Clam Bar and the Flat Iron Steakhouse in Issaquah...
