BruceM Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Famous Volcanoes played our first gig last night at the Terminal Bar in NE Minneapolis - a true dive if I've EVER seen one! LOL. The bar was packed with our loyal friends, and we slayed them. It was great to see everyone there, especially the HFC'ers, Eric Weston & wife, BadgerDave & wife and Ted. Thanks for the support, guys! I can't believe how nervous I was before the show. I'm glad I spent the afternoon practicing in the privacy of my own home, because I really needed the rote learning during the early dear-in-the-headlights portion of the show. I don't play out much (I love the comfort of the 4-3-2-1 club!!!!), so I was a liitle surprised that it took me awhile to work into my poses. Anyway, a big thanks to Robb, Toni & Dave for inviting me into their band. They've got great songs, great vocal harmonies, fantastic guitars and a very cool vibe. I'm honored to be in this band, and look forward to future shows. Oh yeah, I need a lime green ruffled shirt with a cactus. No wait, that's already been done. Hmmm... Here's a few photos: Famous Volcanoes, in all their glory! These boys can sing! And sing.... Me and my favorite drummer! Grand Finale...of course we left them wanting more. Nice pose, eh?
cmatthes Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Very cool, Bruce. Somebody's gotta talk to Robb about that hat with that shirt though Guess a P-90 Duotone makes ANYTHING fashionable!
Cheap Chick Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I ADORE Robb's outfit! Very Nudie's! Totally hip!Man! I soooooooooo am wishing i could have been there! Argh! Where is a teleporter when you need one???
MCChris Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I ADORE Robb's outfit! Very Nudie's! Totally hip! Me too! I totally agree!Bruce and Robb are two of my favorite HFCers. Wish I could have been at this gig. Great name, too ... Famous Volcanoes ... I love it!
robbie Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Super Cool !!! I came in this morning hoping to find evidence of Saturday night's rock show... No offense to mini-bike but that could well be the best first gig ever in my book. Thanks to Bruce, Dave and Toni for rocking so hard!! Thanks to the HFCers who came and to the HFC as a whole. When this band started Dave played Gibsons and was soon buying Hamers and then one night a little while back at the 4-3-2-1 club a little light went off in my head after seeing Bruce play one of the coolest basslines I have heard... soon after he was a Volcano : ) I've always said it but the key is playing with great people, everything else will follow...
BTMN Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Wish I coulda seen the public debut. Glad I seen a first gig though. Good Luck!!
Stevieconlon Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Looks like a great gig! Agree regarding the Nudie look!
BruceM Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Wish I coulda seen the public debut.Glad I seen a first gig though. Good Luck!! Thanks Gene! Hey, would you mind photoshopping those glasses out of those pics? My new cheat sheet has Really big letters so I don't have to worry about that in the future.
BadgerDave Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Lisa and I had a great time. It was my first visit to the Terminal Bar and it brought back memories of all of the small town bars I used to play in. Nothing like pickled eggs and pork hocks behind the counter. The Famous Volcanoes were ON! Great songs and great players. My only suggestion would be to take Robbie's outfit and use it as a base-line. You need louder and more garish stage clothes guys.If I were to put a performing band together again, it would be just about exactly what you guys are doing. I'd add an accordian and a pedal steel, but that's just me.Great job, make sure you let us know when the next gig is scheduled.
earachemyeye Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 So sorry I missed your show. The wife and I walked our legs into bloody stumps at the MEGAMALL (caps necessary). Looks like you had a great time and yes please notify when the next gig is. Bruce, I know the feeling . Joe
