Can a pickguard be polished/brought back to life ?

Got a tortoise pg that had the plastic left on too long. Removed the plastic, then tried to clean it up with some denatured alcohol. This dulled the pg.

Anyway to return the shine? Rubbing compound perhaps?

Before you suggest replacing the guard, I've already done that. However, Fender's replacement tortoise guards are nowhere near as deep in color as what they originally installed. Don't know why, but I like the deeper color of the original.

I've used a fine polish made for cars; Griots Garage fine hand polish, but I suspect it's not unique. It takes a lot of elbow grease, but you can make an old pickguard shine.

The Meguillar's for dark finishes is the best stuff I've used, but I've also used NOVUS (Fine) Swirl Remover/Polish. Both buff up nicely.

I've had a bottle of Meguiars Swirl Remover #9 for ages, it works great. I don't think they call it that anymore though.
