timsmcm Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I have just finished a change over on my lespaul to the pigtail steel studs and casehardened bushings. It is beyond what words can describe what this change made. If you have a guitar with a stop tail tailpiece you owe it to yourself to make this change. It is phenomenal. Thanks Steve Rowan
DaveH Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Can you describe some of the enhancements the pigtails made? Is it brighter, more resonant, or what?
Guest Buck Dharma Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Are you talking about Tonepros or something else?
John E Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 My Hamers I always left/leave stock. I've modified my two Les Pauls to varying degrees (the stock pots in my LPs have a taper that makes them unusable to me). The pigtail studs made my Les Paul (with a wraparound tailpiece, not the tunomatic + stop) much more resonant. The new studs are so much more snug in the bushings--even the stock bushings--that it's remarkable. However, I don't think the pigtail studs would work on Hamers, would they? Hamers are metric, and I think the pigtails aren't.
tomteriffic Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I converted a P-90 Special to a Pigtail wraparound bridge, using TonePro's studs. In addition to the increased mojo and vibe, the thing sustains like crazy and brings out the inherent "rudeness" of the guitar. Herewith some pix: Before: After:
timsmcm Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 It is not just more resonant, it is fuller, richer, with more harmonic tones. I had the tonepros locking studs and a tonepros lightweight tailpiece. when I changed the studs and bushings and plucked the strings for the first time I had the radio on and I said to myself, weight am I hearing somthing wrong so I went and turned the radio off and the first words out of my mouth were Oh My God. Steve told me there would be a big difference but I never was ready for this. Let me say this My lespaul is one of the finest lespauls that I have ever heard stock. It is very lightweight and has a very nice woody tone with lots of balls in the lows and mids. But I like to change things so I have done lots of mods to it some worked some did not. I have a set of timbucker pickups, rs wiring and pots and caps. And with all of that the best mod by far were not the 300 dollar set of pickups but the pigtail studs and bushings. I am betting steve would do a metric set If he new there were people that wanted It. He is a great guy to deal with. It is hard to find that in this business.
