tobereeno Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 well, if you got one of the good ones (earlier), they were short scale. I had fully upgraded mine, but sold it because I was trying to downsize to five instruments.if set up properly, an MIK Cali won't sound all that different than a maple-bodied Californian. But mahogany is really the preferred tonewood for Californians.
cmatthes Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Is there REALLY that much of a dramatic difference in feel b/t the US Cali and the Import? I would be so interested in trying the US ver now to find out.The difference is as wide as the Universe. Not saying that the imports are bad, it's just that there is absolutely no comparison to the USA models. It is truly night and day.

feilong29 Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Any of you tried a Caparison Horus? Similar guitars. I've had two and they are sorta similar except for the scale length.
cynic Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Any of you tried a Caparison Horus? Similar guitars. I've had two and they are sorta similar except for the scale length. If this is a true statement, Caparison is charging far too much for their guitars. If you mean similar as in they both had six strings, two cutaways and require amplification, then they're both also similar to the Cali.

I can only find that to be the main difference and the Horus is a 24.75" scale... but literally, I can't tell a difference in feel, which is what made the Cali appealing! You guys got me wanting to find a US Elite now lol! I love a nice ebony fretboard!
zorrow Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Probably because, by enlarge, Hamer's shredder's only really mean something to old git's who were in their teens or twenties in the 1980's, there was a very definitive swing back to 'traditional' models in the early 90's which is where most people nowadays would probably associate with the brand. Hence simular spec 'import' (bit of an all empassing term) Jackson's, Ibanez's, BC Rich's and Dean's have much more kudos with the under 30's as these companies continued to develop and push their shred / metal designs and high profile people use them (well the same shape anyway), Hamer kept the import line virtually stagnent and i've been under the impression as a bit of an afterthought and any new developments tended to be focused, quite rightly, on current models.^This might explain it. The 90's MIK Hamer shredders are as good as (or even better than) anything in the Jackson/Dean/Ibanez/etc. mid range, but the Hamer brand is no longer trendy.
feilong29 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Still up for grabs though if anyone wants a cheap Cali. My tastes change a lot!
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 If I had any money anywhere, I'd be on this http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/53587-fs-my-hamer-cali-elite-the-brown-burst-slab-o-mahogany/ I gotta sell before I can buy...
feilong29 Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 If I had any money anywhere, I'd be on this http://www.hamerfanc...lab-o-mahogany/ I gotta sell before I can buy...Touche! That one is quite the catch!
feilong29 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 Still up for grabs! Will sell to a forum member for $300 shipped CONUS! A little low but it will make up the difference in mula I have already set aside to get the Jackson RR24 I've been looking for for over a year now! This Californian just needs a good setup and that's it. Will even throw in the gig bag I have, Licensed Gold Floyd Rose Tremolo too! I'm trying to practice a solo to make a vid of so you can hear the tone. Thanks again for looking!
feilong29 Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 So my Ebay auction ends today... if I don't get a sale, I will give it up for $250 shipped to someone one here. Priced low because that puts me closer to getting the Jackson rr24 I've been waiting for and searching for for WELL over a year!
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 I don't know why the imports are so under-appreciated either.Probably because they don't feel or sound like the US production.Yeah, I get that. I meant kinda more 'in general' - i mean, my MIK hamer SS cost £350 in 96 & sounded/felt like a £350 guitar. I'd say it was at least as good as mid-priced Dean/Ibanez guitars I've owned. They fetch nothing moneywise tho. I know the guy that bought mine was well pleased with his purchase. Then again, the hardware I added was worth the price alone...By SS I meant Slammer Series NOT Steve Stevens...

Priced low because that puts me closer to getting the Jackson rr24 I've been waiting for and searching for for WELL over a year!I've looked all over fleabay for your ad but can't find it. Wish i could afford your import dude but 1: I can't and 2: I have far too many guitars to sell before I can buy...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Got it, cheers I'll take it for $250 if it doesn't sell on eBay (if you include everything you mention on the ebay ad). I'd prefer you to remove the neck if posting overseas. Postage should be around $110 (I'll pay that of course). I'll even pay your paypal fees... PS: Don't tell my fiancee (we're getting married 21st March)...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I just pulled a bid on a 1999 Jackson ATX for this (I could have had the for Jacko for $110). Read my PM for postage details etc & get back to me
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Apparantly, your paypal 'does not accept paypal payments from a non-US paypal account.' You need to go change your settings...
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Just sent you the monies & I paid the fee. I'll PM you <thumbs up>
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Really looking forward to getting this guitar now
