Tremolo ground (earth) issue

Hey experts. I have a ground wire running from my tone pot that ends up in an eyelet that one of the screws for the aluminum cavity cover goes through and a ground going to the tremolo claw off of the volume pot.

Do I need both grounds? Can I do away with the tremolo claw ground, like is the ground that goes to one of the aluminum cavity cover screws just as good? I can't imagine needing both...

Oh and I have copper tape lining the back of the aluminum cavity cover... isn't aluminum a better shield against EMI/RFI? Should I try and peel it off?

what Jay said - you need the ground connection to reach the strings...and YOU. You're the ground.

This, btw, makes it easy to test the quality of a club's electrical system. Hold your guitar with your hands on the strings, then touch your lips to a mic. If you get zapped something awful, the cub's wiring is crap :D

And this is why I use a wireless when playing out!!!!

Ahhh... the old days of getting zapped every time your lips touched the mic. I pretty much only played in bad clubs and dives when I used to play out. lolz.

Why behave EMGs any different? They don't touch the strings, do they?

The way it was explained to me, it's not because you're the ground, it's because you're an antenna that needs to be grounded. The ground is supplied by the power outlet in the wall.
