Neck removal

So, I got a cheap LP copy to use as a parts donor for electronics repairs to the Epi from "he who shall not be named." Basically, it's a new guitar that was stored in a garage for a couple of years, resulting in a twisted neck. The electronics are all good, so I'll be pulling the pots for sure, and maybe the pickups, leaving me with a decent LP style body with a bad neck . . . a potential project. How does one go about removing a glued-in neck?

Sit it on top of the boiler with the strings tuned up 10 or 15 steps.

And stand back!

Why do you want to remove the neck? Pull the frets, level the fingerboard, refret, and voila!!!

Never thought about that . . . I figured it would be easier to just replace it.

Man, you sure go to great lengths to get cheap LP copies to be playable.

That said, take a heat press to it!

Hold neck at third fret with both hands. Assuming right -handed, hold guitar with fingerboard facing left. Place corner of house on your immediate lfat and swing guitar towards house baseball bat stylee aiming for contact of guitar body at tailpiece location with said house.

Repeat and hey presto, neck removed without need for complex equipment.

Then open tub of car body filler....

Steward MacDonald has tools for applying heat to fretboards and neck joints. Some are like custom made irons. There are also needles that put steam into holes that you drill under fret slots.

If the twist in the neck is not too bad you could re-radius the fretboard instead of replacing the neck.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far, I'm thinking I'll either go with murkat's slide idea or just strip the decent parts and dispose of the rest.
