restoring Gibson lpjr, logo question

it's me HHB

Question

Posted

Restoring my 50s junior. Its came w a brushed on finish included headstock no logo or serial number remain. It had a neck break and I suspect it has an aftermarket headstock overlay that was part of the repair. It is mahogany on face of headstock. Im gonna refin body and attempt to make headstock somewhat stock looking. What process did Gibson use for the Gold logo and model script on these. I can order a waterslide but that seems difficult to get the authentic Gibby look

Thanks. I doubt I can actually do a silkscreen, maybe a well trimmed and finished over waterslide is my best bet

It seems there are as many references (or more) that say only the script and model were screened, and the Gibson logo was a decal.

This thread on the LPF has lots of pictures (and testimony from BCR Greg) that contradict what I posted in my initial response.

Cool so the.gibby is a waterslide, the script can just fake it and be a waterslide too

Rather than waterside-try a vinyl transfer?

I can buy a waterslide off TGP. Are transfers easy to find or is it diy type stuff?
