Artist/Studio Customs with wraparound tail

is there a reason why the Artist/Studio came with a wraparound tail and the Artist/Studio Customs came with TOM tails? Is it just marketing? Aesthetics? Any mechanical reason? I know, I know... this bridge or that bridge is tonally superior, this bridge or that bridge allows perfect intonation, blah, blah, blah...Coke or Pepsi?

Back to the Hamer Regular v Hamer Custom bridge diff. Why the diff?

I would say economic...

Studio/Artist Wraptail , 1 piece and installation in one action

Custom 2 pieces, installation in 2 acts (and comparable to the Standard version, maybe easier to tune...dunno)

But I am not an expert...this is only a possible and pragmatic idea.

With the Eclipse and Studio in the nineties: they reverted back to TOM/stop-tail after about two years. I think the wrap-around was partly offering an alternative and partly looking to use Wilkinson hardware, but mostly reducing costs on the cheaper model. It couldn't have been a great success otherwise they wouldn't have reverted.

The New Hartford guitars with wrap-arounds are much more considered and are in keeping with Gibson designs - mostly they have upmarket bits rather than Wilkinson. But I was never happy to see Hamer producing what seemed like copy guitars.

I love wraptails... they are simple!I never had bad intonation on one of them on my old gibsons.... I can dream of a p90 Artist with a wraptail!

I think that whole division - wrap on "regular" and TOM on "Custom" - was only in '95 and '95, right? Seen plenty of dot-necked Studios and Artists with TOMs. I've owned one.

I actually don't have a preference. Sustainblocks are cool 'cos they're so adjustable, but I'm as happy with my wrappy '94 as I am with a TOM guitar.

Not sure the wraptails on the '94 and '95 Stusios was an economy measure, as those years had the tummy-cut, which I'd guess balanced the additional cost and trouble of a TOM and stoptail.

The Faber tailpiece that Murkat put on my SuperPro just rings like a bell...so I'm actually partial to the wraparounds (or sustain blocks)....just fewer things in the vibration path. Maybe there's nothing to it; but I like 'em.
