That's one of our guys here. He bought my Special FM for a "good guy" price, and promptly sold it on Evilbay for 1K.

Take nice pics, lay on the hyperbole - it can work. Plus, they made some guitars with tops that push the right buttons, no?

That's an insanely nice top. Non-original knobs, though. Still, that's miles high, IMO.

Not seeing the photos from this auction on my computer for some reason, though I can see anything else on FeeBay without a problem. Linky on this string leads to ebay.ca, tried ebay.com, still no go.

Does it accurately reflect current market value? HELL no. Except maybe in my dreams! ;)

I see it now. It's nice. But not $1700 nice. There might have been a time LONG ago, when eye candy would weaken my resolve in buying and budgeting, but not anymore.

One way to look at it is that if that guitar was still in production, what would you pay for it new? If someone wanted that guitar enough to pay the asking price, he got what he wanted at a price he certainly could have refused to pay. Studios definitely sell for less. Maybe THAT Studio had a special attraction. The top is definitely nice.
