Horrible. "God Hates Us All" all over again. I love Slayer but their new music has been horrid for years. RIP Jeff and Slayer.

Good ole Slayer. I don't blame them for not being what they were as I think thrash is largely a younger man's game, but they've done better in the last 10 years than most of their peers of staying a bit on the brutal side.

Except for Testament. That band remains heavier than a big heavy thing. They actually got better IMO. Exodus still has their moments too now that I think of it... which come to think of it, I'm guessing Gary Holt played that solo because, well, it made sense and sounded like you might need to know where you were going.

Slayer has been to me a rather acquired taste. I used to hate their guitar solos, as they seem loaded with random notes and all sound, at least to me, completely interchangeable.

Their songs however are great for their genre and they also are one of its pioneers. There's a lot of attitude and energy in their stuff. I do like this new song. Gary Holt raises a bit the bar in the solo department, which is good. I'm looking forward to the new album with him.

And yes, as LucSulla says, they remain true to their roots in spite of their evolution. Still a band at the top of their game, probably just surpassed by Testament, which are kicking some major arse these days and sound better than ever -and we coincide on that too.
