Instrument Insurance

Has anyone used the Anderson Group (Hanover Insurance Group) to insure musical equipment outside their home?

Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Heritage and Clarion both seem to have excellent reputations. I'm currently in one of those "I wish I had" situations with instrument insurance, and I've read good reviews of each.

I'll be interested as well in the replies you get here.

I'm not familiar with the Anderson Agency (FL), but from a carrier perspective, Hanover isn't a bad company.

A friend today, who is a major player in the insurance biz (and has one incredible collection BTW), today suggested to me I switch to Heritage as that IS their business. He also said I should ask them for their "agreed value" clause so there is no question about what they are agreeing to cover.

Heritage seems good. They insure a lot of value for around $250 a year. Not bad if you have a kid in college with a few expensive guitars. B)

I had insurance until around 77 , when they dumped me because of the high risk at locations the equipment was to be used ( their words ) never realized anyone offered it . Is this available for actively gigging musicians who travel and leave gear packed in vehicles ?

Depends on the insurer you're talking with. Most general P&C agents that represent insurance companies probably aren't that knowledgeable about higher value musical instruments, and will kick you into another category.

I personally don't deal with any direct writing companies, but looking for an agency or program that specializes in MI coverages, will probably be your best bet. Those are agencies that have contracts with insurance carriers (Companies) that have tailored programs to fit very specific niches. Heritage, Clarion and Anderson appear to be doing that pretty well. Those companies won't try to replace your early 4-digit Hamer Standard with a Standard XT.
