There are 4 M6 and 4 M6 minis, in addition to the bass tuners.

A set of each of those would work.

Thanks! Which is lighter: the pearloid or the ebony? :)

Ooof, and I just realized that'll leave me with 4 chrome knobs, and 8 replacements. Any line on replacements for the full size bass tuners?

I think the difference is negligible, at least in my experience. You'll be reducing the headstock weight by several ounces, easily, and it DOES make an instant, noticeable difference. I still haven't located a source for the regular bass tuners that I like, but if you find that, let us know!!

it requires drilling, but Sperzel put together a custom set for me. MUCH lighter at the headstock, but it did change the vibe of the instrument. Not worse, just different.

but I feel ya bro, the DC body exacerbates neck heaviness.

Yeah, Tobe says it best. You may want to try pearloid buttons before you go replacing the machine heads.

That said, l ordered some Grover Imperial pearloid buttons for my Newport to relieve some of the neck heaviness. Wrong move! Totally changed the character/balance of the guitar. Back on went the stock, stair step buttons. Actually balances on a strap pretty well, all said.

I had an unmodified B12S and the neck loved to dive. there's a lot I can tolerate with an instrument but neck-heaviness sucks balls.

but pulling weight off the headstock changes the sound. it's subtle, but it's there. maybe 5% less thump and 5% more twang?

it's a tough decision if you absolutely cannot tolerate a change in the vibe of the instrument because it really does help the balance of the instrument.

Totally going with buttons first, I have no desire to let my wife see me taking drills to the bass she bought me!!

+1 for that.

I have very good experience with buttons change only on Schallers. Perloid or Ebony either way. Try this. It helps enough IMHO

You guys are thinking backwards.....lighter buttons make some difference....but add weight TO THE BODY END to get rid of the neck dive.

4 inch WIDE leather strap and some brass in the control cavity or on the tail button will get rid of it and still keep the bass sounding the same with the original tuners. Gluing a heavy brass plate to the inside of the control cavity plate is the most inconspicuous.

I'd rather do it without adding weight, but maybe I'll try that first..I have lead tape (for weighting golf clubs), suppose that could be used too (I'm not putting tungsten powder in the control cavity) :P
