Caddie Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Weeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllll.................guess what showed up on my doorstep? Yyyyup, my old Marshall JTM30 amp chassis. The clean channel works, switching to the gain channel has no effect whatsoever, and reverb does not work at all. So much for the tech's claims that he was "in final tests".It went out in July '04 as a Marshall 2 channel, reverb amp with a heat related power section problem. It returned in August '05 as a 1 channel, non reverb with a new bias adjustment pot, 3 new preamp tubes, 2 new power tubes, and a ziplock bag containing 6 power tubes & 5 preamp tubes. No signs on the PCB of the "many fried resistors & caps" that Mr NoizeyNeighbor claims he replaced. So that's what 13 months & $80 bought from www.noizeyneighboramps.net I absolutely hate to hang someone out to dry, on the web or anywhere. But if you read this thread you will understand that Mr Noizey was given numerous chances to do the right thing and repeatedly chose to turn in the other direction. Sorry to do this but IMHO steer clear of www.noizeyneighboramps.netSo I am now the proud owner of a tall, narrow, gray/green tolex clad Marshall end table? Its not the worst news I've received this month, but DAY um!!! Anybody out there who can transform this end table back into an amp?Noonan
sirDaniel Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Hey Caddie, send it TO ME!!! I DO have a soldiering iron AND... ...I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last week
BCR Greg Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Send it to us. Todd the God is truly the finest amp tech I have ever met, and I've met a bunch.
Caddie Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Greg, is that your amp tech's golden sparkly mug gracing your avatar? ;-)You're sure Todd wants to work on a PCB Marshall JTM30 Reissue? If he's game, I'm game. I'll get the amp chassis boxed up and shipped to the Lemoyne address listed on your website.ThanksNoonanPS to sirDan - Thanks for the offer but keep your soldering iron clean for important jobs like cauterizing blood vessels........and watchout for those blueberry muffins at the HolInnEx Breakfast Buffet. Just a couple of those little bombs and you'll need to have your "beer belly bevels" custom cut. ;-)

powerage Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Hey Guys, I'm a newbie here.....been trolling for a while as I love Hamer guitars and this is a great site. So I sign in tonight and look around and what do I read? I guy about 20-25 min away from me is screwing over someone on this board! I would have been more than willing to pay him a visit if I would have known sooner. This is not a largely populated area (100,000 or so) and I know many of the musicians in town but this guy's name does not ring a bell. I am going to start checking around now and see if anybody I know is familiar with this guy. The music stores in town usually ship tech work to Springfield as far as I know. Caddie, I'm sure your done with the whole ordeal and your just happy to have your amp back but what he did was just wrong. He's very lucky your such a patient person. By the way, where does he work? Anyway.....hello all!! I look forward to being a trusted and contributing member of this board. I own a T-51 and Korina V but I want to own more. After all these years I am still very much an amatuer with limited knowledge conerning all things technical. I just love to play. I rely on you guys for the details. Take care..

He's very lucky your such a patient person. By the way, where does he work?let it go..........its not worth wasting anyone's time, stomach lining, or anything over. You hit it, I am indeed glad to have the amp back and can now work toward getting it back to 100%. The only reason I did a follow up post on this matter (and I was very reluctant) is to help someone steer clear of the same pothole. But please, lets not stir anything up. Let it go.Cunfyoooshus say: Don't follow the guy who just flipped the bird at you. You won't like his neigborhood.ThanksNoonan
BCR Greg Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Powerage, welcome to the board.Your offer to help is great, just the thing that makes this community what it is.I think you'll fit in nicely.
powerage Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Caddie, It's all good. I understand completely. I'm thankful you posted his info so I can spread the news to others around here. Still haven't found anyone who knows him although there is a small music store in his area (rural area outside the city of Decatur) that a friend thinks he does amp work for. Thanks for the welcome BCRgreg! much appreciated....
Submariner85 Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 You should get ahold of the Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org/I had an issue with an insurance company not wanting to pay off and let me close an account last year and after round and round for months, 1 call to the better business bureau and the insurance company had a check in the mail almost immediately.
Brooks Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 Jeepers, creepers...I did not know my JTM30 was a 'cheesey' amp. Mine rocks the marshall brown-sound thru the 6L6 like a bitchy, banashee, b'butt', bustin'. i thought all jtm's had EL34's. mine did.
Zoner Posted August 26, 2005 Posted August 26, 2005 JTM30's had a pair of 6L6's in the power section and actually sounded mighty good until their PC boards would eventually cook and curl up and cause problems with reliability. I had the 2x10 version and it was killer for a small, portable WMD (Weapon of Marshall Domination). One peek inside, however, and it was down the road due to cheap ass construction and bargain materials. I can't trade reliability for initial savings, and the junky stuff ends up costing extra$$ due to frequent repairs I can't do myself, so it's a wash anyway. JTM30's being only 30 watts, you can really get the output section jamming, but with that type of use comes our arch enemy, heat. Z
